Prayer: Change the hearts

Prayer: Change the hearts

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 We have lived in times when hearts have hardened. Recently I was in the intercession room before a service and a brother started to pray saying “Forgive the ‘nos’ that you Lord will hear today”. I immediately remembered the passage at the beginning of the text, and I would like to pray with you about it, so that the hearts of stone become hearts of flesh. Remembering that you don’t have to repeat the prayer exactly as I’m going to leave it here, because each of us has a specific way of communicating with the Lord. But if you want to accompany me, it will be a pleasure. Feel free to speak your own way. Prayer “Gracious God, we thank you for this day of life and the opportunity to be in Your presence. So many people have said “no” to You, have despised You. We cry out for a special […]

The Christian as the Cedar of Lebanon

The Christian as the Cedar of Lebanon

The Cedar of Lebanon is a common tree in mountainous regions and Mediterranean climate. This tree grows slowly, but reaches a great height, being considered one of the largest trees, reaching 40 meters. A curiosity about this tree is that, in the first 3 years of life, its root reaches almost 2 meters deep, even though its height is about 5 cm at that time. Only when its root is well-grounded and secure does the tree begin to grow in height. And that’s the point I want to bring up today. Don’t worry about the external This tree doesn’t need to show everyone at first how big it will be. This period is dedicated to her firmament, so that she stays strong at the base. The well-founded root is what prevents it from growing fragile, only then will it reach its final height with safety and strength. In Psalm 92:12 we find the following passage: “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon” Christ wants us to grow like her, grounding us in His Word, focusing on the inside and strengthening our hearts so that, from there, our growth becomes visible without it melting […]

What does it mean to be the ‘salt of the earth’?

What does it mean to be the ‘salt of the earth’?

Have you ever eaten a food without salt? If the answer is yes, you know how bland and totally different flavor it is without it. And that’s what I want to talk to you about today: Being the salt of the earth First, the salt in the dish In Matthew 5:13 we see the phrase “You are the salt of the earth…”. This condiment has the power to change the entire flavor of the food and enhance the qualities of the food. In this way, you were called to change the flavor of things. You can transform people’s lives, the world around you, highlight for each one how the Father’s love is present around us. For a long time I focused on this verse thinking it was too difficult. It felt like a lot of responsibility and something far away to be the salt for the whole earth. That’s because I forgot that the salt of the earth starts out being the salt of the dish. With every pinch I don’t need to be a person with all the talents and wisdom in the world to be able to salt something. I don’t need to charge myself to do something […]

The power of God’s touch

The power of God’s touch

I was studying the book of Daniel these days and I found a passage that caught my attention. The main image of this message was the intensity of God’s light touch. That sounds a bit contradictory, right? But I will explain. The incessant search In Daniel 10:10 the prophet says: “A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees“ This verse refers to the touch that Daniel received from the messenger who was sent by God. The phrase “a hand touched me” makes us think of something serene. But the meaning is much greater! God’s touch on him, through the messenger, was so intense, so powerful, that it made Daniel, trembling, kneel down and lean on his hands. The extraordinary vision that Daniel had received before that touch had already made the other men hide, while he remained without strength, almost fainting, with his face on the ground (verse 8 and 9). Do not misunderstand me. God is a sweet and loving Father, but His touch is powerful. As smooth as it sounds, it’s brash and leaves nothing standing. Daniel says in verse 8 that there was no strength left in him. But will I fill that […]

An invitation to the Holy Spirit

I confess that recently I have changed a lot in my attitude towards the Holy Spirit. I have invited Him to participate in all areas of my life, not just some. I have also come to understand that He is someone who can be my friend. And I recently regretted ignoring Him for so long. Even though I was born in the church, and sometimes I failed the Holy Spirit. I often forgot to have a relationship with Him, to honor Him. I ended up creating barriers with the manifest presence of the Spirit out of fear of a “misuse” of His presence or fear of exposing myself in some way by letting myself be guided by His action. But the truth is that everything changes when we know and understand the Holy Spirit and give Him way in our lives. I still have a lot to learn about Him, as this experience is quite recent, but here I will share some of what I have lived and learned. We depend on Him First I would like to talk about how much we need the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our churches. Recently I have been very challenged […]

The greatest act of love in all history

We have arrived in April and we find ourselves on the eve of Easter, a date so important to us in which we commemorate the greatest act of love in all history. I was thinking throughout this week about how people celebrate this milestone. I believe that many families have the habit of getting together and having a special lunch, in the case of Christians, we go to church and we also have a special service, we eat in memory of the sacrifice of our Lord. Despite this, I feel that Easter does not get the same attention as, for example, Christmas for many people. I believe that this happens because of the commercialization of this date, society has made this period extremely commercial, with the famous Easter eggs (which every year get more expensive) and bunnies. I know that at Christmas we also have symbols and man-made traditions, but especially at Easter I see this directly affecting children who are still learning about the word of God. So today I want to bring here the real story of Easter. The first Easter This year everyone will celebrate this moment with their families in seclusion, due to the Pandemic and […]

Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Temperance

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22 (JKV) We are in the eighth text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will go deeper into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians and today we will learn more about temperance. I would like to start by saying that temperance is moderation in thought, word or action, that is, it is directly linked to self-control. Temperance and self-control He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 25:28 (KJV) Those who practice temperance have self-control and show moderation in their passions and behavior. Therefore, temperance as a character trait is a common theme throughout the Bible, especially in the New Testament. It is impossible to live a godly life and please the Lord without self-control because our flesh desires only to please itself. But in Romans 13:14, we are warned not to seek to satisfy the evil desires of our human and […]

Galatians 5:22 (JKV) We are in the eighth text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will delve into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians and today we will learn more about meekness. I would like to begin by leaving here the passage from Colossians 3:12: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering”. Meekness But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 1 Peter 3: 15-16 (JKV) Meekness is keeping calm even in tense situations, who is meek acts with wisdom and calm, not allowing himself to sin when he gets […]

Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Kindness

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22 (NIV) We are in the fourth text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will delve into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians and today we will learn more about kindness. I would like to begin by leaving as a reminder the passage in Colossians 3:12: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”. Kindness Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10 (NIV) Do you know what kindness means? Well, it is the quality of those who are benign, that is, endowed with good characteristics, such as generosity and benevolence. To act kindly is to be merciful to others, behaving based on loyalty and fidelity. Being a fruit of the Holy Spirit, as well as love, joy, peace and long-suffering, the quality of being kind is produced by the Holy Spirit in us, when we are […]

Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Peace

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22 We are in the third text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will delve into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians and today our study will be about peace. I would like to start by leaving as a reminder the passage from Romans 8, 6: “The mentality of the flesh is death, but the mentality of the Spirit is life and peace”. Peace I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 Peace is not characterized by the absence of struggles or circumstantial adversities, but by discernment and emotional control in the face of situations that bring anguish, doubt or fear. This fruit of the Spirit, described in the sacred scriptures, is very different from what the world means by peace, because it is generated by the comfort of the […]

I can’t hear God’s voice

Have you also been troubled by not being able to hear the Lord’s voice? Have you ever wondered why you didn’t hear God speak? Are you going through this today? Today I would like to talk about one of the phrases that I spoke most in my life and that I hear many times! If you’ve ever felt that way, I imagine it’s an important text for you! Shall we talk about it? The noise is too loud! “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16 The Bible shows us that, on several occasions, Jesus withdrew from the presence of others, went to a quiet place and prayed to His Father. But for what reason did He do this? In my view, Jesus withdrew for two reasons: to avoid noise and to be alone with the Lord. I would like to speak specifically about the noise. Noise that deafens us and disturbs us. What noise would that be? The vast majority of us have a busy schedule and a very busy life. We got involved in a lot of activities and ended up with a very full mind too. It is important to say that there is […]

Purify my heart!

I would like to make this prayer with you, to ask the Lord to cleanse our being and our hearts. We need to repent and purify our soul and heart! Remembering that you do not need to repeat this prayer exactly as I am going to leave it here, because each of us has a specific way of communicating with the Lord. So if you want to accompany me, it will be a pleasure, but feel free to make it as you wish. “Father, today was a difficult day. Several times I got distracted from Your ways and I gave way to temptation. Even though I knew I was going the wrong way, I decided to go on. I got dirty with the impurities of sin, polluted my mind and ignored Your Spirit, I am dirty and I have neither the strength to get up nor the water to wash myself. Therefore, I ask You, once again, to pour out Your water on me and extend Your mighty hand to me. Free me from myself, purify my heart, my mind and my soul from the things that I put in me. I ask you, God: please, have mercy on me […]

I would like to say a brief prayer with you, to ask for the Lord’s help! We often lose the incentive and the will to seek the Word of the Lord and His presence! You do not need to repeat this prayer exactly as I am going to leave it here, not least because each of us has a specific way of communicating with the Lord! So if you want to accompany me, it will be a pleasure, but feel free to speak your way! “Lord, I came here again today to open my heart and ask you for help! I have been having difficulties to seek You. I confess that I no longer have the same desire to talk to you, read Your Word and spend time in worship, as it was before This has been bothering me! I want to seek you with all my heart and worry about what really matters, which is pleasing You! So I ask you for mercy. God is in the smallest details

Have you been paying attention to every detail of your life? Can you see God in all things and realize that it is He who does everything? Or do you seek only the great miracles and supernatural experiences? Today, on the day I’m writing the text, I talked to a friend of mine and she helped me to realize that I haven’t seen God’s hand in the little things! Therefore, I would like to talk to you about it! Come with us! See the Lord in everything! “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” Psalm 139: 7-12 We are often in the habit of seeking only the great miracles and the great supernatural experiences in our lives. The importance of discipleship!

Your difficulties, your failures, your sins … with whom have you shared? Who has helped you on your spiritual journey? I have realized the importance of having people to accompany us in our life with Christ. We cannot walk alone, because together we can grow and learn more about our Father and his principles revealed in the Word. I would like to talk to you a little about this! Come on? Have someone accompany you “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10: 24-25 The Bible makes it very clear to us the importance of having fellowship with our brothers and encouraging one another. We all know that a spiritual journey is far from easy. Every day we have struggles, problems, difficulties and sadness that we carry. We are human beings with our limitations; unable to account for all of our problems. We are often ashamed to confess our sins, to open up any difficulties. We are afraid or even think we don’t need to. However, […]

Run to the Lord!

Where is our refuge? Who have we believed and trusted? In moments of anguish and pain, into whose arms have we been running? These days I have been thinking a lot about refuge. About who I have placed my hopes on. In times of suffering, we need to run to the right place. I would like to talk a little about it! Come on? Where is our heart? “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 The Bible makes it very clear to us that what we pay attention to will greatly influence our decisions. However, several times we pay attention to things that do not matter and this brings us great losses. Whenever we have our hearts in the wrong place, as soon as we experience some difficulty, we tend not to run to God or even to blame Him, even though we have no reason to do so. However, this does not happen only when we are in an uncomfortable or painful situation. This also happens, often, when we are happy and “without problems or difficulties” in our lives. We end up forgetting that it is the Lord who does all things and […]

We need to stand up!

Are we living God’s will? Have we done things for Him and in the way that He asks of us? We need to talk about the comfort zone. I have realized that we need to get up. It’s time to act, we can’t stand still! Are you going to stay still? The comfort zone Unfortunately, it is extremely common to see Christians in the comfort zone. I say this because I am often one of them. Several times I chose to stay chill, calm, instead of obeying the voice of God. How many times have I chosen to stop talking about Jesus’ love to a friend or a stranger?! Or how many times have I not helped a homeless person out of shame?! And how many times have I spent several days without reading the Bible and praying out of laziness or “because I am tired” ?! Unfortunately, several times. I was watching a pastor’s live on Instagram and he made a very interesting comparison: in ancient times, people who read the Bible and prayed every day, were doing nothing but their obligation. However, for the current generation, if a person has the habit of reading the Bible and praying […]

God is beside you!

It is extremely important to understand that the Lord is on our side, regardless of the situation! Do not walk ahead if the Lord is not ahead of you! I would like to bring a brief theme that touched my heart a lot! If you have also had a hard time understanding that the Lord is at your side or having a hard time staying in Christ, I think it’s important that we talk about it! Come with us! What happened? During the past three weeks I confess that I was distant from God! I was trying to do things by my own strength, without letting God take over. Furthermore, I did most of them for myself and not to please and glorify God! There came a moment that was sunk in myself. I didn’t understand what was going on, where I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do! Why? Because I was trying to take everything in my hands and do more than I should, doing things that God showed me not to do and worst of all: I thought I was doing God’s will and doing things to please Him, when in fact, I […]

The love of God

These days I’ve been a little restless. Some things in earthly life made me feel discouraged, and as a result, my energy to keep pace with prayers diminished a little. Glory to Jesus. Through the maturity He has given me, I can more easily see where my refuge is and the source of my joy. In the midst of this rather bad time, feeling anguished, I threw myself into Father’s arms. I turned off everything that could get in my way, turned off the lights, and cried for his peace. Humbled myself at his greatness and apologized for the lack of wisdom in not running right into his arms at the first opportunity. I opened my mouth and said out loud what was going on and why my heart was so heavy. At that moment I felt God talking to me about His genuine love for men. I was taken with virtue and peace. Ran to open my bible and began to try to understand more deeply what had just come to my mind at that moment of prayer. I decided to share some of this with you today. The concept of love Although we use the word “love” for […]

Why is it so hard to forgive?

Why is it so hard to forgive?

A few days ago I received an email from Barna Group, which is an American faith and culture research organization. This email motivated me to write this text. In the message, they released the results of a study on forgiveness and mercy that showed the following findings: One-quarter of practicing Christians says there is a person who they cannot forgive. Almost half of practicing Christians say mercy doesn’t influence their thoughts or actions or they haven’t thought about whether it does. One in five practicing Christians reports struggling to receive forgiveness for something they have personally done. Christians grapple with whether certain people deserve compassion or forgiveness, and they are not all that different from non-Christians when it comes to embodying merciful attitudes and actions. It is even contradictory to think that christians, that is, people who were reached by grace and who understood that they were forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus, have difficulty in forgiving. But the data showed this sad reality. We also know that when someone hurts us, it really is not easy. Forgiveness is something supernatural As soon as Jesus rose from the dead and made his first visit to the disciples, he breathed the Holy Spirit upon them and […]

God is His Word

“In the beginning, the one who is the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God ” (John 1: 1) I love the times when I begin to reflect on this verse. It is at these times that I see God as inexplicable and of incomparable size and simplicity. God himself calls himself a verb. And through that, it makes it clear that contact with Him is simple and happens naturally when we are ready to listen to Him. Things get even better when John exposes the Son as God Himself. Saying that first of all, the word of salvation already existed. It freaks me out when I think God has absolutely ready everything for us to enter the Kingdom and live in communion with Him, as He was at the beginning of all things in Eden. Nonconformity with the church I have witnessed really sad times for many churches. With society increasingly valuing a culture where the self must be fully satisfied before the next. We see man running after the earthly fullness and the satisfaction of the pleasures of the flesh. Worse still, we see the church being contaminated with this growing culture. […]

How to hear the voice of God?

Many people have come to me on social networks to ask the right way to hear God speak. Some blame themselves for never having heard an audible voice. Others do not know whether God is speaking or whether what they feel is the work of their minds. I felt like writing this post to talk about how I “hear God” and encourage the brothers to strive to hear from the Lord. Lowering the volume I heard a very good phrase from Brother Douglas Gonçalves (JesusCopy) on this subject. He says that since satan can not lower the volume of God’s voice, he strives to increase the volume of things around us. So that we can not understand what God is speaking for so many things that are screaming in our ears. In fact, it is difficult to direct our minds to have contact with God in the midst of so many things. Work, study, relationships, problems, debts, processes, social networks. There are innumerable things that take our focus every day and make us spend in futilities a time when we could move away from all of this so as to silently try to hear the voice of God. If we […]

Prayer and decision

Hello dear readers! Last week I told you one of my stories with God and how I came to stop here in this blog. Then I received in my Instagram several messages about the post “Where is your heart at?”, through which I saw, through comments and testimonies, many people being impacted by the Holy Spirit. Among the messages, I was asked for many prayers. What struck me was the number of requests among them, so that I would call for a restoration in the relationship of these people with God. I was annoyed at how many people who for some details still hesitate to put their faith and their heart totally in God. The Importance of Prayer Throughout the Bible we see examples of people crying out and being heard. Prayer is extremely important and plays some essential roles in our life with God. We should always be aware that a relationship is built with quality time and good conversations. Therefore, praying to God brings you closer to understanding who He is and how He thinks. This makes us understand his ways and purposes and feeds our spirit. The neglect to hold conversations continually with God, as in a relationship […]

Where is your heart at?

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jer 29:13 – KJV) This verse from the book of the prophet Jeremiah is extremely quoted in the evangelical churches. I at least grew up hearing this for years. From my ignorance, perhaps I have never given so much attention to the word “all”. On the other hand, I certainly learned a lesson recently. For the first time here I will talk about myself and something that God has done in my life. It will be a testimony linked to something that the Lord has placed in my heart. I hope the Holy Spirit speaks in some way to everyone. My name is Marcelo Brandão. I have little more than two decades of life and work with communication and social media. Before I started working with the Bible Offline and writing for this blog, I had another function: I’ve always been passionate about photography and football. At some point in my life I joined these two things and started working together with a club in São Paulo. Later, I was invited by ESPN to write a blog about this team. In the […]
