Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Kindness

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

We are in the fourth text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will delve into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians and today we will learn more about kindness. I would like to begin by leaving as a reminder the passage in Colossians 3:12: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”.

Kindness

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:10 (NIV)

Do you know what kindness means? Well, it is the quality of those who are benign, that is, endowed with good characteristics, such as generosity and benevolence. To act kindly is to be merciful to others, behaving based on loyalty and fidelity. Being a fruit of the Holy Spirit, as well as love, joy, peace and long-suffering, the quality of being kind is produced by the Holy Spirit in us, when we are guided by him.

In Micah 6:8, it is written: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”, So we can say that goodness is one of the qualities that the Lord requires of His people.

We, children of God, must obey His will revealed in His Word, practicing acts of mercy and showing compassion for one another. One of the greatest examples we have is our own master Jesus Christ, who during his time on earth showed such kindness to sinners, even at the time of His crucifixion, when he asked the Father to forgive those who harmed him, as reported in Luke 23:34.

Where there is kindness, there is no place for evil, hatred or bitterness, because actions are guided by love. I believe that when we understand that our God is filled with this quality, we learn to be kind to other people too. Just as the Lord loves and helps us without deserving it, we must also love and help others.

Our greatest reason for seeking to be filled with kindness, is to rejoice our God, for everything we do should not be for our own boasting, but rather to honor the Lord. Finally, I leave the passage from Proverbs 12: 2: “Good people obtain favor from the Lord, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes.”

God bless you!

Prayer: Purify and restore

Prayer: Purify and restore

Father, today I stand before You, acknowledging my need for the presence of Your Holy Spirit. There are areas of my life that often resemble dry, weary, and barren land. There are times when my faith weakens, my heart becomes heavy, and my soul thirsts for the water that only You can offer. Therefore, I ask You: pour out Your showers of blessing upon me. May Your Spirit renew what is worn out, restore what is broken, and bring life where there is dryness. Just as You promised to pour water upon the thirsty land, I acknowledge my dependence on You. I do not want to seek satisfaction in the fleeting things of this world, but in the inexhaustible source of Your presence. Fill my heart with Your peace, strengthen my faith, and help me remain close to You at all times. May Your Spirit flow through my life like rivers of living water, bringing hope, direction, and renewal to every area that needs Your touch. Holy Spirit, fall upon me like a flood. Invade the places in my heart that I have not yet fully surrendered to the Lord. Wash away my worries, my fears, my insecurities, and everything […]

Rain and fire upon us

Rain and fire upon us

Throughout the Scriptures, God uses powerful images to reveal the work of the Holy Spirit. Among them, two appear repeatedly: rain and fire. They may seem like completely opposite images when we read them, but rain speaks of life, renewal, and abundance, while fire speaks of purification, holiness, and power. When we cry out, “Holy Spirit, fall like a flood” or “Holy Spirit, send Your fire,” we are echoing deeply biblical symbols that point to God’s work among His people. The Holy Spirit is not merely a force or a passing emotion. He is the living presence of God dwelling within us, transforming dry hearts into fertile ground and igniting cold lives with the fire of His presence. Rain upon dry ground “I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26 Since the Old Testament, God has promised to pour out blessings upon His people like rain that falls at the proper time. The image of water is frequently used to describe spiritual renewal, restoration, and abundant life that come from the Lord. In a world marked by spiritual exhaustion, many hearts […]

Prayer: Meet me in the secret place

Prayer: Meet me in the secret place

Father, today I stand before You, acknowledging that many times I have allowed busyness, distractions, and the need for approval to steal from me the value of the secret place. Forgive me for the times I sought appearance more than intimacy, and recognition more than Your presence. I do not want to live a superficial faith, but a true relationship with You, built away from prying eyes and close to Your heart. Teach me once again to return to the secret place. May my prayer time not be a matter of obligation, but of a deep desire to encounter You. May I learn to seek You not only for what You can do for me, but for who You are. Give me a heart that delights in Your presence, that longs to hear Your voice and remain with You even in silence. Holy Spirit, reveal everything that has taken the center of my heart. If there is vanity, spiritual pride, or a need for human validation within me, I ask You: transform me. May I not live to appear spiritual before people, but to be known by You. Form in me a sincere and profound life, aligned with Your will. […]
