How to do a daily Devotional?

How and what to do in your daily Devotional? Devotional is undoubtedly one of the most important moments in the daily life of a Christian. Therefore, we need to pay close attention to it.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. – Joshua 1:8

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. – John 6:35

We need to look to Jesus and in the biblical teachings, for food for our spiritual life. That way we will be able to grow, increase our faith and live a life that glorifies God.

It is important to remember that the devotional is a personal moment. You should do it in the way that makes you most comfortable. What we are going to talk about are just a few steps that can help you, but there is no exact rule on how to do it.

The Place

The choice of place has a great influence in the flow of our Devotional. It can either help a lot or hinder a lot.

A quiet and comfortable place is always the best option. Choose a place where you can focus. And where you don’t mind the things around you.

Most people prefer to do their devotional time in their room. Which in my opinion is the best option. However, if you are unable to focus on your room, choose another place that is right for you.

The Duration

There is no right duration for a moment with God. The duration of the Devotional depends only on how willing you are to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say to you.

You should always do your best to go deeper and deeper in the presence of God and always stay focused.

Always try to keep the same duration and increase it little by little. Constancy is always a friend of perfection.

As mentioned in one of the texts we sent you last week, set a fixed time in your calendar to seek God.

The Devotional

In my view there are 4 steps that are essential for Devotional: Praise, Prayer, Bible Reading and Meditation. Not specifically in that order, but always try to keep these steps in your Devotional.

The Prayer and Bible Reading are the two most important parts of the Devotional moment. Have an organized reading. Not random chapters or verses from random books. This way, you will be able to better understand the books and have a deeper reading.

The Reading

You can choose a thematic Bible plan each week. In the JFA Bible app we have plans on prayer, faith, marriage, God’s love, etc.

You can also follow the Bible reading through annual plans or plans like “New Testament in 3 months”.

In addition, there are good devotional books with a meditation for each day of the year, as is the case with “Daily Bread”. Within the area of devotions in the app, you will find the book Talmidim by Pr. Ed René Kivitz, which has daily reflections.

Take Notes!

Make it a habit to write down what the Holy Spirit reveals to you about the Word. Or some curiosity that you discovered when reading the Bible. Also note if God speaks to you while you pray.

Also right down the verses that caught your attention. Memorizing them is also a very cool thing to do.

Be sensitive and be sure to right down and remember special moments in the presence of God. Because it is impossible to be truly in the presence of God and not be transformed. So a devotional diary can be a memorial of everything that God has done in your life.

Conclusion

The Devotional moment must be done daily, as it is our daily portion of what God has to speak and deliver us. Build your Devotional life little by little. Grow daily and DO NOT GIVE UP.

We graduated from the Google Play Apps Accelerator 2026

We believe that technology and faith can walk hand in hand. This conviction has driven us since the very first day of the JFA Bible, and over the past few months it has led us to experience one of the most remarkable chapters in our history: we graduated with our new Bible AI app as part of the first global cohort of the Google Play Apps Accelerator 2026. We want to share with you not only the outcome, but also the behind-the-scenes journey of everything that happened. The invitation that changed our year At the end of 2025, Google launched the first edition of the Google Play Apps Accelerator, a pioneering global program that selected only 38 high-potential apps from around the world. Among them, only two were Brazilian, and Bible AI was one of them. We received the news with a mix of joy and gratitude. 12 weeks of the program During twelve intensive weeks, we immersed ourselves in masterclasses led by leaders in the global tech industry, one-on-one mentoring sessions covering everything from technical scalability to leadership, and exclusive conversations with experts from Google and some of the world’s largest technology companies. Every session helped us think bigger, […]

Prayer: Running from religious fear

Prayer: Running from religious fear

In the previous text, we talked a little about religious OCD and how it takes our focus away from what Christ truly expects from us. Today, I want to invite you to pray with me about this subject, so that we may feel free in the Father’s presence, seeking Him with love, gratitude, and true peace. You do not need to pray exactly as I will write here. Open your heart genuinely to God. But it will be a pleasure to accompany you in this moment of prayer and seeking. Prayer Father, I know that many times my mind is filled with fear, guilt, and thoughts that steal the peace of my faith. I know that You do not want me to live imprisoned by spiritual anxiety, constantly trying to earn a love that was already given to me on the cross. Teach me to rest in You and to remember that Your love is not sustained by my performance, but by Your infinite grace. When intrusive thoughts come, when the fear of condemnation tries to dominate my heart, and when I feel spiritually overwhelmed, help me remember Your truth. Your Word says that I was not given a spirit […]
