Rahab: a lesson of faith

Rahab is a curious character in the Bible. She was the one who hid the spies sent by Joshua in his house and protected them when the king of Jericho found out about their presence.

After hiding them, Rahab asked them to remember her and her family. And to spare them when Jericho was conquered by the people of Israel.

Her declaration of faith in God

She was a prostitute and was mentioned 8 times in the Bible, 5 of them as “the prostitute Rahab. She acame from a culture of worship of other gods. Even so, when she made the agreement with the spies to spare her family, she makes a statement of faith in which she recognizes the supreme sovereignty of God:

And said to them, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

Joshua 2:9-11

A posture that transformed her life

Rahab’s attitude of faith transformed her life. She was spared in the conquest of Jericho, was justified and became part of the lineage of Jesus’ ancestors. She is even mentioned in the faith gallery of Hebrews 11.

The people of God received Rahab and her family, recognizing that she would begin a new life among them. Proof of this is that she married Salmon, prince of the tribe of Judah, and constituted a family blessed by God.

Conclusion

When a person declares his faith in our Lord, He neither looks at his profession nor rejects he for his sins. God accepted Rahab’s faith even though she was a prostitute and her life was transformed.

The story of this woman of faith also shows us that we should not distinguish people by the wrong choices they made in the time they lived far from Christ, but rather have a look of mercy.

Just as faith has transformed Rahab’s life, our attitude of faith can transform our lives and take us to unimaginable places as well. Faith is part of our journey towards a relevant journey.

God bless you!

New year… the whole bible!

The Word is a Source of Life and Wisdom. Reading the Bible daily is essential for maintaining a healthy spiritual life. Jesus declared: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4). Just as we need physical food for the body, the Word of God is the spiritual nourishment that sustains the soul, offering guidance, comfort, and renewal. Spiritual Growth “Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.” Psalm 119:98-99 The Word provides wisdom to face daily challenges. By meditating on the Scriptures, we gain discernment and understanding to make decisions aligned with God’s will. Daily Bible reading also helps us grow spiritually. As the apostle Paul wrote: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Consistency in reading shapes us into the image of Christ, correcting our paths and equipping us for good works. Not every situation we face is explicitly described in the Bible. But by delving into and truly understanding the Word, we become equipped for whatever […]
