Have you ever wondered if God has favorite children? Perhaps at some time of difficulty you thought that God cared more for your other children, after all, you were doing everything right, but the Lord was not rewarding you as you expected. The lives of your brothers and sisters in the faith may have seemed better, more exciting, as if God had a favoritism for them.
So, does God have favorite children? Am I one of them? In today’s text we are going to dig into this topic together and understand what the bible has to tell us about it.
Favoritism and God
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
When I read these two words (favoritism and God), one next to the other they sound very strange to me, don’t you think so too? After all, God is just and in his justice would have preference among his children? I would also like to reflect on the above passage. Our Lord gave his only Son, not for one or two people, but for whoever believes in him. Because of His love, He gave EVERYONE the possibility of salvation through faith in the Son. We can all enjoy His love, but that doesn’t mean we won’t go through trials.
As Father, He knows what is best for us, what would take us away from Him, or make us more proud and full of ourselves. He also knows which ordeal will make us more mature and upright. The attitude of seeing the other conquer something and feeling inferior, even shows that we should not receive what the other received, because, this shows a discontented and ungrateful heart.
God is no respecter of persons!
Peter opened his mouth and said, “I truly acknowledge that God shows no partiality; But that he is well pleased with him who fears him in every nation, and does what is right.
Acts 10:34,35
God shows no partiality, He loves all His children equally, but each one chooses whether or not to live in His love. Each one chooses his or her own way. Our Father gave us freedom, we have the right to choose to walk by His side in an upright way or not.
There are no beloved children, but children who have chosen to love God as He has loved us, who trust, surrender and decide to die to the world and live only for the honor and glory of His name. Now I ask you: have you been this son or are you still a bratty, ungrateful son, who can’t live for Christ, puts difficulties in everything, doesn’t give up sin, stops reading, listening, participating of things that edify you and make you have more intimacy with our merciful Father? If you have identified yourself with the naughty son, all I can tell you is: open your eyes!
Seek first the kingdom of God!
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33
The Gospel is not easy, for it demands surrender. Everything is achieved through effort and sacrifice, and it is difficult to live like this in a world where everything seems to have lost value, including honour, but know that before us who suffered, was hated and had to face death was Christ, for love of us. So, enough of excuses, stop trying to change God’s pattern, He said that He will give you strength to overcome all things. Trust that in the right time He will give you what is yours!
God bless you!
