With Jesus on the team

During World Cup seasons, something special happens. People from different backgrounds, ages, and opinions gather to cheer, celebrate, and share moments. Homes are filled, friends meet, families draw closer, and fellowship happens around a common goal. This atmosphere reminds us of an important truth of Christian life: we were created to walk together.
More than cheering for a national team, the Bible teaches us that there is a much greater victory available for those who live alongside Christ. When Jesus is in the game, we don't face life alone. And that is the greatest advantage anyone can have.
Fellowship strengthens us
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
During the World Cup, we see people gathering to watch games, share meals, and celebrate together. There is something powerful in unity. Even in a simple moment of togetherness, we are reminded that life was made to be shared.
The Bible deeply values fellowship. God never planned for His children to walk in isolation. Just as a team depends on the collaboration of all players to achieve its goals, Christians are called to live in community, supporting, encouraging, and strengthening one another.
When we gather, whether in a church, a small group, at home, or even to watch a football match, we have opportunities to show love, welcome, and care. Sincere fellowship is one of the ways God strengthens His people.
Off the field
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV)
Millions of people follow the World Cup dreaming of a great sporting achievement. But the Bible reminds us that there is an even greater victory than any earthly trophy or title: the victory we receive through Jesus Christ.
While human achievements are temporary, the victory Christ offers is eternal. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered sin, death, and everything that separated us from God. This is a victory that does not depend on human talent, strength, or performance, but on the grace of the Lord.
Therefore, even when we face defeats, difficulties, or moments of uncertainty, we can continue to trust. Those who walk with Christ have a hope that goes beyond circumstances and a security that does not depend on life's scoreboard.
We win with Jesus
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
Having Jesus in the game does not mean we will never face challenges. It means we will never be alone in facing them. Christ walks with us in every battle, strengthening us when we are tired, guiding us when we are lost, and sustaining us when our strength seems insufficient.
Just as a team relies on the presence of its best players in decisive moments, we can fully trust in the presence of Jesus in every area of our lives. He is our counselor, our helper, and our daily source of strength.
During this World Cup season, enjoy moments of fellowship, joy, and togetherness. Celebrate friendships, strengthen family ties, and remember that there is a much greater victory than any championship. When Jesus is at the center of our journey, we gain something the world cannot offer or take away: the presence of God, the peace that surpasses all understanding, and the hope of eternal life. With Jesus in the game, the true victory has already been won.
