I would like to start by asking you a question: what have you been doing with the talents the Lord has given you?
Maybe at that moment you’re thinking that He didn’t give you any talent, that you don’t have any gifts or anything like that.
For a long time I looked at myself and thought, “Why did the Lord give me this talent? How can I serve Him with this?” But recently God taught me that He uses ALL the gifts and talents He gives us for His work. On our side, we just need to allow it.
Talents are not just artistic
Many times we really think that we don’t have a talent from the Lord, just because we don’t know how to sing, dance, or play an instrument. Most of the time we think that our aptitudes always need to be linked to the artistic side, but this is not always the case. Personally, I’ve tried everything. I took singing lessons, piano lessons, danced, acted, but none of it was really what God had planned for me.
Sometimes we are so focused on what we think, that we don’t look at reality and slowly bury our true talents. We often have special skills in loving, speaking, preaching, praying, writing, serving, and so on.
The parable of the talents
In the book of Matthew chapter 25, verses 14-30, the bible tells us that a lord was traveling and, before leaving, he called his servants and gave to one 5 talents, to another 2 and to another 1, each according to your ability.
While the first two went to trade their talents and multiplied them, the one who had only received 1 buried his lord’s money.
When he returned, the gentleman went to count the talents he had given. The one who received 5 now had 10. The one who received 2 had 4. While the one who received 1 gave it to his lord in fear.
“His master replied to him, ‘You evil, lazy servant! If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered, then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned. “‘So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. And throw this good-for-nothing servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”
Matthew 25:26-30
Conclusion
Although we have so many doubts about this subject and we often don’t try to develop the talents that the Lord has given us, He invites us today, to dig up treasures that we received from Him and that have been stored for a long time.
These gifts that God has given us are very valuable and He wants to use them so that, through our lives, His Glory may shine.
