The word “movement” appears for the first time in Genesis 1, verse 2. From that text, from Genesis to Revelation, it was through people moving that miracles happened.
Do not stop
“The earth was an empty waste and darkness was over the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was moving over the top of the waters.”
Genesis 1-2
It is after this word that the text of Genesis begins to tell us how God created everything in the world in those 7 days. It was after His movement that everything began to emerge.
Movement means success. No one who has won and reached incredible places has managed to stand still. People who move change their position and achieve their goals and dreams. Even if it’s not overnight, with each step they get closer to where they want to go.
And as the Father moves, He calls you to move and work. Not to stand still. The Lord can do anything with a snap of His fingers, but He will work the impossible and He expects us to do everything that is possible as humans beings . We have the opportunity to participate in the work of the Father.
I heard a phrase one day that said: “Stone that rolls so much, does not create moss”. Don’t stagnate, don’t create moss!
GO!
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
God commands us to be strong and courageous. Getting up and acting. It is as if He were saying: “I will not be strong for you, use all the strength you have and whatever becomes impossible I will do for you”. God does not do what we can do. He does the “beyond” it.
In Joshua 1 we see the story of the fall of the wall of Jericho. Bringing it down was God’s action and something that He had already promised. But first He asks, in verse 4, for Hebrew people to march around the wall. He expected action from the people to act on it.
In all the stories, the Lord did through those who were on the move. When He calls David, for example, the boy was working in the field.
He looks for people who are moving, who leave a place of inertia, who walk and fight for what they dream of. And this is linked to the fact that we are the abode of the Spirit. It is linked to the “GO”, quoted in Mark 16:15.
Don’t stop the act
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”
1 Corinthians 6:19
The Bible says that the Father is seated on the throne and at His right hand is the Son. But the Holy Spirit, the third “part”, lives within us. We are indwelt by the Spirit, and as He moves among us, we see miracles and great wonders taking place.
But, if the Spirit needs to move and He dwells in us, How will He blow wherever He wants in the 4 corners of the earth, if you, who are His dwelling place, remain still?
When the Spirit tells you to walk, stand up and be courageous, and you choose to stand still, you also stop the work of God in your life. Hate and even anger make us get up, act, scream, get angry, make wrong decisions… But when the Spirit commands, we often stay parked.
God came into the world in the flesh, and in all of Jesus’ stories, He was not still. He went up to the mountain to pray, walked among the people to work miracles and bring the word of God. He also rested, as we see in the story of Mark 4. But when the Father called, He did not remain still. You need to learn to rest at certain times, but don’t let that rest stop the Lord from acting.

“…Prophesy to the breath. Prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’”
Ezekiel 37:9
I’ve seen great friendships, business ideas, connections and so many other things being born in places where some people present said afterwards: “I almost gave up going that day“.
Many times the movement of the Spirit will take you to places you don’t want to go. Several times the Spirit will ask you to pray for someone you are not comfortable with. Or to do things you don’t want to do at the moment.
But it’s only when we’re on the move that unexplainable things happen. At each step we understand what the Lord expects of us and what He dreams of through this action that we need to take.
It might not make sense at the time, but that’s how we grow. It is by leaving the place where we are today, that we arrive tomorrow at the place we dreamed of.
