But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
Today we will start a series here on the blog, where we will delve into what is written in the Bible about each of results of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives, mentioned in the book of Galatians. The series “Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit” will feature 9 devotionals, which will be released every Monday here on the Bible Offline blog.
Love
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12
Love is the first mentioned and to understand it a little better, let us draw on the passage in 1 Corinthians 13: 1-8, when the apostle Paul was teaching in a church about true love and said that even that he spoke all the languages that are spoken on earth and in heaven, if he had no love, people would not understand anything.
Paul goes on to say that he could have the gift of announcing messages from God, have all the knowledge of the world, understand all the secrets that exist and have so much faith that he could even take the mountains out of his place, but if he had no love, those things would be worthless. He could give everything he had and even hand over his body to be burned, but if he didn’t have love, it would be worthless.
Later, from verse 4, he explains what love is: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”.
The Apostle wanted to teach us that love lasts forever and is God’s greatest gift to us. When we love each other we become more like Jesus, the person who loved most in this world. Jesus loved so much that he gave his own life for us. As Christians, our greatest desire must be to look more and more like Christ and it is impossible for that to happen if we do not love.
It is important to emphasize that love is a commandment, so it is a decision that must be made by us every day. From getting up to going to bed, through each of our actions, we need to decide to love and manifest this through our actions. When we have this awareness, we see others in a different way.
Concluding …
Remember that loving is a decision, we must love even those who bother us, because that is what Jesus did, he loved regardless of who the person was or what was person’s background. I know it can be a difficult task, but remember that God is with you, pray and ask for help. The Lord has the power to act in all situations.
