Prayer: Less of us

God, I acknowledge that I often look for in the eyes of others what only You can give me. I seek approval, praise, and acceptance, and sometimes I allow the opinion of those around me to determine who I think I am.
Today, I want to turn my eyes toward You and remember that I am already known and loved by You. Deliver me from the need to be constantly approved and teach me to find in You the security that cannot be built by men. May Your presence be the center of my identity and also of my relationships.
Christ, draw near to me and to the people You have placed around me. May I not turn my relationships into places where I need to prove my worth, compete for attention, or win the approval of others. Teach me to love without demanding applause, to serve without needing to be recognized, caring without expecting anything in return. May I be able to see each person as someone created and loved by You, and may our fellowship be marked by grace, truth, forgiveness, and a sincere desire to lead one another closer to You.
Lord, when I notice that someone is living trapped by the opinions of others, help me not to feed that need, but to point that person to Your love. And when I myself am desperately seeking to be seen, remind me that I have already been seen by You. May we build relationships where we do not need to pretend, compete, or sustain perfect images, but where there is freedom to be vulnerable, to acknowledge our flaws, and to find in one another brothers and sisters willing to walk together toward Christ.
Do not allow our fellowship to turn into a stage for our own glory. May what people see in us not be an attempt to build a perfect image, but the reflection of Your grace transforming our lives. May our words, choices, attitudes, and relationships point to You. Teach us to celebrate one another without idolizing, to honor without placing upon people the burden of filling what only Your presence can fill. May Christ be the bond of our unity and the reason why we remain together.
Jesus, when I lose applause, recognition, positions, or anything else that used to feed my heart, remind me that if I have You, I already have everything. May I not live to win the glory of men, but to contemplate and reveal Your glory. Free me from the shackles of human eyes and make me someone who can love with freedom, because I no longer need to be seen to know that I am loved. May my relationships be places where Christ is present, where Your grace overflows, and where, together, we can learn to look less at ourselves and more and more at You.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.
