That God loves us, we already know. In each contact we have with Him, we see his goodness, his love and his justice, which are priceless and eternal. In the last blogpost I approached on how is your intimacy with God. I spoke of how we should be pure in heart to get closer and closer to Heavenly Father. And to understand his plans and feel his love without the barriers that we ourselves build.
Where do these barriers come from?
If purity of heart is essential for rapprochement with God, we must also talk about some key points in order to purify ourselves from all the evil that we witness daily in the world.
Before we go to the practical points, it is interesting to understand the nature of the evil that we see every day. That is, where evil begins. So get ready, because we’ll have a great deal of Bible in the next few lines.
Jr 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? (10) “I the Lordsearch the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve”.
Through the Bible, there is no doubt that wickedness comes from within our hearts. Because of the seed of sin that has been established in our being since the first sin of mankind. The deceitful and corrupt heart quoted by Jeremiah plans evil. That walks a path between bad thoughts and comes out in the form of fire, contamination and deadly poison through our indomitable tongue, which ends up hurting our purity and that of the brothers around us.
What hinders our purity?
We come to the central theme of this post. It was the passage that the Lord placed in my heart to pass on to the brothers who accompany the messages I publish here.
We will talk about seven things that should be unthinkable among people. Since they are things that God hates.
Pv 6:16 “There are six things the Lord hates, the seventh is detestable to him: (17) haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, (18) a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, (19) a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community”.
The first reaction that everyone takes when reading this text is that of “this isn’t talking to me”. The second may be “well, maybe yes!”.
It is sad and disturbing to see how much we practice these seven things that the Lord hates in our day to day. I will go over each one in order to show you my thoughts on all this.
1 – Haughty eyes: we can define it in many ways. But the main one of them for sure is selfishness. As we have seen in “Christ vs. Anti Christ: You Look Like Who?” looking at yourself above looking at your neighbor is a fundamental characteristic of everything that is opposed to God’s will. We let our pride take over our eyes as we look at brethren who we think know less than we do or have more things to fix than ourselves.
Mt 7: 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? (4) How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? (5) You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”.
2 – Lying tongue: about this, I think it is not necessary to talk so much. But sometimes we think only of big, sudden lies. But this also refers to the basic issues of everyday life. The simple “tell that I’m not at home” when the phone rings with someone who I do not want to answer already enters this point.
3 – Hands that shed innocent blood: I hope all of you are safe! However, thinking that blood is the greatest biblical symbol of life. Shedding innocent blood here can be interpreted as the simple fact that by our attitudes we destroy the image of some person to a third person, based on our own personal opinion or experience with her.
4 – Heart that devises wicked schemes: It is not just evil plans that are architected or planned crimes. Are those thoughts that one has when a brother steps on his callus. When a perverse person does to us something evil and we are eroding it inside and thinking of ways to return that evil in the same coin. Which obviously makes us a wicked person as well.l.
5 – Feet that are quick to rush into evil: This is for brothers who love gossip. In my short life experience it is the thing I have most witnessed within churches. A brother did something to someone and the first thing that happens is everyone knowing through people who have more difficulty than usual to hold their tongue. In a flash, everyone knows about a fight, a sin or an error. Instead of striving to help the person in question, they mistreat her and end up creating more weight than she would carry if few people knew.
6 – False witness who pours out lies: How many times have we not seen someone trying to get rid of some guilt by putting it on someone or dodging it to avoid being harmed? I do not only speak in churches. It happens all the time. At work, in studies, in the family. It is something that we must avoid.
7 – A person who stirs up conflict in the community: It is most interesting to think that the seventh thing, which the Lord detests, is but a summary of the six other things. It is to put ourselves in front of others (1), to lie to the people around us (2), to destroy the image of an innocent person (3), to erode evil to return it in the same coin (4), to gossip about people and things that happen (5) and utter lies to dodge the guilt and let it fall on someone. God in his infinite grace created us to live in holiness and communion with all people. Since discord means “disagreement.” Whatever is this disagreement with any human being, God sees it as a detestable thing.
So pray and self-analyze! Ask God to tell you what things you have done that displease Him and prevent your relationship from becoming ever more pure and intense!
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the pure love of God, who abhors all wickedness and the full communion of the Holy Spirit, be present in all the brothers! Amen!
It works really well for me
How do i find your previous posts? I started reading it and then lost connection and lost the article too. Can you write a list of them at the bottom of your next post?
You can find all posts here: https://bibleoffline.com/blog-of-bible-offline/
I read this and thought of the many persons who I know could benefit from it. Then as I continued to read I realised that I am the first person with whom I should share. I thank God for sending me a mirror through your words. I did not like what I saw, but now that I see it, I can allow God through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit to help me fix it.
Thank you for allowing God to reach me through you. Peace and blessings.
Amen brother!!! GLORY TO GOD!! THANKS SO MUCH
It’s amazing how God can speak to us when we need to hear his guidance and open our hearts to receive his message.
Your blog on this lesson came in perfect timing as I currently face similar trials as the ones Samuel Lee commented above. Bless you Marcelo for allowing our lord God work through you and share this message with perfect clarity.
Keep up the great works my brother and be well in the name of Jesus.
Thank you for that knowledge, it made me realize and remember too that I really need to “hold my tongue” a lot more. We all (including I, and all other Christians ) need to do that to be the loving people Christ wants us to be! Thank you, Christian brother i will try my absolute best to utilize that information as well as possible, how though? It’s all about faith in Jesus, god, and the bible; rely strongly with faith in the word of God. God bless you.
Glory to God!! Hallelujah!!
Brother you are burdened with the false teachings of the religious. The only way to get to GOD is by Faith in THE WORD. That’s JESUS. Make HIM preeminent in all things. That means even your own wickedness. HE knows we are scumbags so HE provided justification through HIS Work on the cross as a PERFECT LAMB. Thank GOD when you do good, it is CHRIST in you, Thank HIM when you fail,( you will constantly) HE knew you were going to, that’s why HE made THE WAY. Humble and Honest, not self righteous. Stop trying to do, and accept that you are because HE said so. Rest in HIM. You cannot be near HIM and HE not change you. You are either lost or saved not by works but by Faith. James did not advocate works. He said true Faith causes you to be different, not perfect but different, unlike the world in the way you love. Stop telling people to prepare themselves for GODS SALVATION. All we bring is sin to that table. HE gives us Faith to Trust and Believe the WORD when it say HIS LOVE is much bigger than all our sorry sin by Faith in HIS WORD. Do you Believe?
Hi there, Everett!
You didn’t understand well. I am not supposed to say that we are saved by the works of our hands. The Bible is so clear about the fact that we only have salvation in Jesus name.
But as Paul says on Romans 6:
“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?”
These texts that I publish here are reflections for us to trying to reach more of Christ’s character on our daily lives. We shall not be saved by the works, but as we go closer to god and his son’s character, we do better things for the kingdom.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have had other bible apps, but I feel compelled to study. GOD BLESS YOU. I will push on in Jesus name☺
A very life changing piece of work, may the Lord increase His knowledge to you for the world to benefit.
Thank you for sharing. May God richly bless you!
Thank you so much for the great words you shared. May God blessed us all.
I am really touched with this message. There are things which may seem right to man but they are wrong in God’s sight, may the holy spirit guide me to overcome them.amen, thank you for giving us this revelations, its indeed a great lesson. Be blessed
I thank God for this message.
It made me cried because the Holy Spirit convicted me.
You don’t know us but God is using your life for others. Thank you as well for the message..
Thanks for sharing. I have been having revelations to get close to God, sometimes I feel so empty, even with everything I have. I think this is a good way to start…. I have to purge my spiritual life and start afresh.
Praise the lord!
At first when I was reading this, I’m like no that’s not me. But when I get into the details I know I’ve been lying to myself all this time by excusing myself thinking that it’s small, alright? it’s not gonna affect anything. But it does and it hurts someone or the other.
Thank you for sharing this, I was blind to see the obvious things.
Thank you Lord!
God bless you very much for the blessings which you are showing us.
Please help, how do I get rid of the bad habits,
Keep it up
Good is not unjust! We know everything about the scripture but denying the truth, who is God unto us! If we don’t acknowledge the cross where our Lord Jesus Christ bringing back all to God, His goal & purpose, then we can’t consider our life giving spirit to be like Christ in nature! Our Lord Jesus Christ is Not only a saviour, but Christ who is mingling in our Spirit and spread the word the power of God and His kingdom.
Good morning Marcelo, please continue to share whatever God puts on your heart.
Amen! Great wisdom in intepreting the meaning of today’s context.
I am currently struggling with leading someone on.. and here the bible states about purity of heart. I am reminded of the shedding of innocent blood part. I do not wish to project the wrong impression to my partner, though if this relationship continues, it might end up with someone being hurt.
Thank you for the message. Have a blessed day Sir!
Thank you so much for sharing the Wisdom that was given to you by The Most High GOD.
I really needed this.
