Can Love End?

Today we will address a topic that can give much to talk about, so I want to focus on love between a couple, the love in the marriage, that is a great blessing from God. The Father created man and woman to be together. Love keeps the couple together, even in the most difficult times.

In Songs 8:7, it is written, “Many waters cannot quench love; the rivers cannot carry it away in the current. If anyone were to offer all the riches of his house to acquire love, he would be utterly despised.” So you may wonder, why do we see love running out all over the place these days? Well, this is not an easy question to answer, but I invite you to come together to better understand why.

Love is a decision

The first thing we need to establish here is that love is much more than a feeling, it is a decision that must be made on a daily basis. We can say that when a man and a woman like each other, they need to decide: to love or not to love. Love is more than attraction, it requires wanting the good of the other and fighting for unity, even when it is very difficult.

It is not every day that someone feels in love, but it is at this moment that it is necessary to remember who the person by your side is (her identity in the Father) and make wise decisions in favor of love. God created love between a couple to be a relationship of respect and care for each other. The man cares for the woman and the woman cares for the man.

The balance between the 3 loves

To exist that love that resists and insists over time, it is necessary to go beyond passion. I recently heard in a preaching that marriage is a place of balance between the 3 types of love:

Fileo – companionship, affection, friendship.
Eros – passion, desire, attraction.
Agape – unconditional, without interest, pure.

Develop this balance is a learning process in practice, because in no school we learn how to be a husband or a wife. It requires a huge mutual effort. But with God’s help, the couple can learn to live this true love and find happiness in the marriage.

What is the love that never ends?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not mistreat, it does not seek its own interests, it is not easily angered, it does not hold grudges. Love does not rejoice in injustice, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

The love that never ends is God’s love, or “Agape” love, our Lord is love, and with this certainty we know that the Most High must be the basis for every relationship. When a couple builds a relationship firm on the rock, no matter how great the adversities, their love will not be shaken.

A couple’s love can come to an end

Unfortunately we may not be perfected in the Perfect Love of the Lord. As flawed human beings we can see love ending. It ends when love ceases to be chosen and is replaced by disrespect, carelessness, violence or betrayal. It is at times like this that a marriage can come to an end. If love is a choice, then the love for one’s neighbor, being not only the spouse, but family, friends and other people, can also end.

If we allow ourselves to be forged by the One Who is Perfect Love, we can avoid or reverse these situations. A piece of advice that I leave is: do not seek misconceptions preached by society, but seek to learn from God about love. Seek help from wise people who will bring you even closer to the Father so that He can make all the necessary transformations and healing in you and in your relationships.
