Not everything from God will feel exciting to do. Many times, we will need patience and consistency—even in the midst of “boredom.”
Learning to handle boredom is also an act of honor to God, because we worship Him in the silence too.
Worshiping in Boredom
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58
Sometimes we stop doing certain things because they feel boring, tiring, or repetitive. Just because they don’t bring instant fulfillment.
Not every time you go into your room to read the Bible will be a powerful encounter with God—those moments where you cry and pour your heart out. Most times, it will be quiet. You may even feel that familiar “boredom.” But God is still doing something in that moment.
The problem is, when there’s no thunder or noise, we tend to believe God isn’t present. And little by little, we start giving up, letting go of the ordinary—and missing out on moments that could become visibly extraordinary.
We long so much to see the Lord in a mighty storm, that we forget He is also in the gentle whisper.
“After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave… He replied, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty…’
1 Kings 19:12–14
God in the Ordinary
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17
The series The Chosen includes a powerful scene where the disciples, during an ordinary day, can’t find Jesus. When they go looking for Him, they find Him helping a man fix a cart.
That’s what the presence of God looks like—often showing up in the places we least expect, in the simplest activities of our day. Jesus is in the details, in every action.
Our private, quiet prayers in our rooms are powerful. But the prayers we whisper during our daily routines can be just as powerful—maybe even more. It’s in those moments that we invite God to be truly close: to walk beside us, talk with us like a friend, and share in our life from the simplest detail onward.
Toward the “Extra”
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
Luke 16:10
To sense God’s presence and become attuned to His voice, we must grow accustomed to boredom.
Gratitude in the ordinary opens the way and pours out wisdom so that we can handle the extraordinary and receive it in the best way. God doesn’t only call us to big stages—He calls us to make a difference in the most mundane days.
Your friends need to hear about Jesus long before you ever speak on a grand platform—because revival starts right there.
For something to catch fire, there has to be a spark first. You can’t skip straight to a roaring flame without first gathering the wood.
Let the ordinary prepare you for the extraordinary—and live God’s best every single day!
