The power of the secret place

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6: 5-6

Jesus was a reflection of what he lived and received in the secret place. And the most incredible thing is to know that what moved the heart of Jesus was not necessity, but love. Love for the Father, for intimacy, for eternity.

Encounters with God transform life

Rest assured that our greatest encounters with God will always be when our decision is too close the door to the room and spend time with Him. It is in these secret encounters that He tells us truths about who we are. He reveals more about His essence and gives us new sandals to support the “GO” ministry.

It is in the secret place that we are equipped for the visible. Moses had an encounter alone with God in the passage of the burning bush. At that meeting, God revealed to him His purposes for the nation of Israel and the call He had for Moses. Moses is sent to free the people in secret place. The Lord promises to be with him in secret place.

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” – Exodus 3:7-10

In the secret place, God can reveal things to us that will impact our visible life. Furthermore, we are spiritually nourished as we relate deeply to God in prayer and through His Word. Thus, we are able to live life (the visible) in a wise way, which pleases God. We will be prepared for trials and challenges.

A deep relationship with God

Later on in Exodus 33:11, when the people had already left Egypt, the biblical text says that the Lord spoke face to face with Moses. Like talking to a friend. Moses went to the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord.

You can find the secret of a relationship with God in your devotional life. A life where no one sees but the Lord Himself. In this place there is no applause, but whispers. There is weeping for repentance and revelation of the Word. It is in this place that you find God’s greatest treasure.

It takes willingness, courage and surrender

If we want to live a life of intimacy with God, our mind needs to be aware that living in the deepest requires willingness and courage. There is nothing more important than our relationship with Him. It is through a genuine relationship with Jesus that we learn to live and perceive this world. For the Christian, connecting with God is like breathing, a matter of survival.

Secrets and treasures are only revealed to those who come to His Presence. It is necessary to approach with sincerity of heart and give yourself totally to Him in prayer.

It is in the secret place that fear, anxiety and sadness disappear. He is the compelling love, the soothing voice and the certainty that guides the lives of those who are his. The preparation in prayer is hidden, but the fruits of it are always exposed.
