The Bible is not just a book of stories — it reveals processes, teaches principles, and invites us to see life from God’s perspective.
When we look at Jesus’ journey, we often focus on His public ministry — the miracles, sermons, and healings. But there is a quieter part, barely detailed in Scripture, that holds immense value: the years of preparation, growth, and development.
Jesus went through common processes while being continuously shaped by the Father. The process is part of the purpose, and even behind the scenes, God is forming something great within us.
Walking in the Steps of the Son
“After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.”
Luke 2:46-47
When we look at Jesus, we instantly recognize the Master — the One who taught multitudes, healed the sick, and performed miracles. We know He began His public ministry at the age of 30 (as cited in Luke 3:23), but we often overlook everything that happened before that.
Jesus spent years being formed — silent to the world, but fully active before the Father.
The Bible briefly shows us a glimpse of His childhood when, at twelve years old, He was found in the temple, listening and asking questions to the teachers of the law. This reveals that He was constantly growing — in wisdom and in favor with God and man. God Himself allowed Jesus to go through the process, the daily building of who He would become to fulfill His mission.
Just as Jesus didn’t “skip steps,” we are also called to understand that processes are part of the purpose. God doesn’t forget the details of our story, and each stage — no matter how simple, ordinary, or even exhausting it may seem — is a brick in the building of what He has dreamed for us.
The Details and the Behind-the-Scenes
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.”
Isaiah 7:14-15
Jesus was a child who learned to walk, to talk, to obey. He felt pain, hunger, and cold. He was a teenager who, like any other, had to deal with the changes of life. He was an adult who worked as a carpenter (Mark 6:3), knowing physical labor, sweat, and likely emotional and social challenges as well.
It is extraordinary to think that the Son of God lived the ordinary experiences of life. This shows us that God cares about our everyday processes, about the simple days, about the behind-the-scenes where no one else sees.
Jesus didn’t just come to die; He also came to live among us, to understand our pain, and to be an example — even in the small things. And He did.
The silence of Scripture about so many years of Jesus’ life does not mean a lack of purpose. It is a powerful reminder that God works behind the scenes. Just as He shaped the character of His Son, He is shaping ours — often in secret, away from applause and eyes, but always under His loving and attentive gaze.
When we learn to value and prioritize the secret place, God will send us into the public place — if it’s His will.
Created for God, Shaped by Him
“He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”
1 Peter 1:20
Jesus was dreamed of by God before the foundation of the world. He came with a specific purpose, and everything in His life was aligned with the Father’s plan. The same is true for us.
Ephesians 2:10 declares, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Although Scripture does not record every detail of Jesus’ life, we know that every moment contributed to what He would fulfill in His ministry. And that draws us closer to Him. If He — being God — went through the process, how much more do we need to embrace the path God has prepared for us? He knows our behind-the-scenes moments, our silent battles, and our ordinary days.
Therefore, never underestimate your process. Never think that your “uneventful” days are wasted. Every season, every challenge, and every lesson is part of the story that God is writing in you.
Just as Jesus was shaped so that God could work through Him, we too are being prepared daily to be instruments of His Kingdom — whether on the stage, behind the scenes, in the extraordinary, or in the ordinary.
