How much time have we invested in the study of the Word? Have we taken advantage of the time we have to read the Bible? Today we are going to talk about the importance of the Bible in our lives.
I confess that I have always had a hard time finding pleasure in reading the Word, but the Lord has placed great joy in my heart, while spending time with the Bible.
Follow me on this journey!
The Bible in my life
As I was saying, my walk with the Bible was never a good one. I have always been reluctant to spend time reading the Word and would rather have my leisure than invest time with the Bible.
Without a doubt, the consequences of this in my life were not good. If I had spent more time with the Word of the Lord, when I was younger, today I could have a better understanding of who God is, who I am in Him and many other things, such as my calling.
I learned in the most painful way how the lack of Bible reading damages our lives. I could have avoided mistakes like trusting myself and wanting to take control of my life. God’s Word itself brings us that kind of teaching. In Psalm 37: 5, the psalmist teaches us to commit our way to the Lord and trust Him.
I was uncomfortable with this situation of not being able to feed on the Word. I really wanted to have a reading routine and enjoy reading the Bible. However, I could not understand that it was enough for me to do 3 things:
1. Asking for Hunger and Thirst
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:”
Amos 8:11
Not only in the Old Testament, but also in the New, we have several passages that tell us about being hungry and thirsty for the Lord. However, focus on this passage from Amos specifically, as it talks about having hunger and thirst “to hear the words of the Lord”.
We know that the Bible is the Word of the Lord. Therefore, if the prophet tells us that days of hunger and thirst for the Lord’s words will come on earth, we must ask for it! For ourselves, we will never feel like reading the Bible, because we are in the flesh and our flesh does not want what pleases God!
We need to cling to what pleases the Lord. So that, more and more, we will want to seek more and meet more with our God.
2. Asking for Understanding
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10
From the moment we are hungry and thirsty for the Lord, we begin to understand better who He is and we fear Him. However, even so we will have difficulties to understand many things that the Lord speaks to us, through His Word. For that, we need to ask for understanding and revelation of the Word, so that we can understand what He is trying to tell us.
3. Simply read
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Joshua 1:8
I always had the habit of waiting for the best situation or waiting for the will to start reading the Bible, and that was a big mistake of mine! As we said before, we need to get up and act, because the will to do what pleases the Lord will not come. Our hearts are evil and sinful. So just start reading the Bible and you will not regret it.
Have a nice reading! Grace and Peace!
The Bible indeed plays a very important role in our Christian lives. For one, the Bible is the ultimate source of God’s commandments and teachings that can guide us toward fulfilling our purpose and achieving the life that He has planned for us. Hope this will help. Thank you.
Manytimes I say that, I trust in the Lord. But when the situation comes, I fail to so. Hardships makes me tired off life But still I read Bible.
As a lil girl i begun reading & having a personal relationship with our Creator & can seek vs today that He may put new revelation on for a time such as this… it’s a relationship & culminates as u devote time & heart🕆💓He wishes for us to conquer the world as He guides with His Spirit & in this growth you desire to be more like His purposes ✡💓
Thank you for your kind uplifting words. I get what your overall message is trying to convey. When the Lord was tested by the father of lies and said to him to turn the stones to bread. Our Lord responded br rebuking him with scripture that man shall not live on bread alone but with every utterance of Gods word. That was the strongest scriptures that points out the case for total dependence of the spiritual provisions that our Lord has us on literall life support with.
Your reference to Amos 8:11 is not really appropriate. It refers to a spiritual famine that the wicked will receive for their evil ways and it should serve as a warning to everyone that turns lives for their own self fulfilling purpose. Please read the whole chapter and of 8:11 which will make that clear. I agree with your point that you are trying to make. Our Lord must be our corner stone of our life and be our source of life and reason for living.
Thank you. I know what you are saying
Thanks for the word of God.
Thank you. Would you please enable this to be forwarded to WhatsApp also?
The way that a person interprets the words within the Bible is a way God tests the reigns of the hearts. If the understanding is based in love than it is of God…if it oppresses and hates individuals or promotes ways in which the Lord, Himself, did not walk than it is not being understood through God’s Spirit.
May you have the eyes to see the difference.
I, too, struggle with reading the Bible, because I don’t want to just READ, but UNDERSTAND what I am reading. I’ve bought books and study materials, but just can’t get what I NEED. I need a structured, reading/understanding/explanation Plan.
You need to take a leav of absence from your life and commit to a year at W.O.L.BI.
Thank you i needed this push this morning. I am going through a storm right now that has me a little shakened but this helped me. Thank you i pray for more understanding and patience. In the name of jesus.
Thank you so much I pray for moore understanding of what I reed Amen
Thank you for sharing your issues with reading His word and showing us that verse in Amos. I have the same struggle and this is a definite motivator to change my ways. God bless and Amen!!

Father lord help me with the Holly spirit to guide me in reading the Bible and understanding it
It’s about choice asking God to help us choose to read the word a desire and wanting.! Saying that we ‘Must do it or should do it, is, not how Father works in us, it’s a choice , it’s free will, and he gave us choice and free will as a gift. So let us ask the Lord to help us choose asking Him to put His desire of His heart in us, to want to freely willing to choose to read the scriptures daily with out condamnation or that we must. For Gods love cast out all worldly fear. We are not bound by Gods law alone, we are bound by Gods Love, for Gods Love is the Law
