Today we will continue the series “What healing do you need?”, where through three reflections we will recall biblical stories of physical, emotional and spiritual healing, in which the Lord worked in favor of his children, showing once again his glory and infinite goodness.
In the last text we talked about physical healing, and today we will talk about emotional healing, a subject that has become more and more important considering the world we live in. Overwork, polarization, information coming at us all the time, and so many other things, more and more we see people with stress, anxiety, depression, and other bad things that affect even children.
Of course, all this has not arisen in our time, and in the Bible you can already find stories of emotional healing, because since there is sin on earth, we human beings have led much more arduous lives. However, fortunately our savior sacrificed himself for us and today we no longer have to carry the weight of sin, for we have been set free.
I want to remind you that emotional diseases can have several reasons, not only spiritual ones, and that there are qualified professionals that we can seek to help us in this healing process. And today, to go deeper into the subject of “emotional healing”, I bring here the story of Jeremiah.
Jeremiah, a man with a calling
Jeremiah did not have an easy life. God commanded him not to marry or raise a family, because the children born at that time would have no future, as described in Jeremiah 16:2-4. He also did not attend parties or funerals, and as you can imagine Jeremiah’s life was very lonely.
Because of his ministry and his message about the punishment and destruction that the people’s sin would bring, Jeremiah was considered a traitor, who was trying to demoralize the people. He was arrested several times for his preaching, he was mistreated and some people even tried to kill him! But in the midst of all this suffering, God protected Jeremiah’s life.
As a consequence of his many sufferings, Jeremiah became sad and depressed. At one time, he even questioned why he was born, as it is written in Jeremiah 20:18: “Why have I come forth from the womb, to see labor and sorrow, and that my days may be consumed in shame?” .
But Jeremiah never gave up. He received very harsh messages, but he never forgot that God also promised salvation and all that the Lord spoke to him. Throughout Jeremiah’s reading, he several times is encouraged by the Lord and given encouragement to continue. We must remember that even when problems don’t seem to end, we have the promise of salvation, the hope in God will give us strength to continue.
What wounds do you need to heal?
Jeremiah was wounded several times and these wounds at some point build up and lead to questions like the one he asked about the reason for his existence, so today I want to invite you to ask yourself what are the emotional wounds you need to heal?
Emotional healing often begins in forgiveness which may not be easy, but with God’s help it is not impossible. Think about what has hurt you, people, situations, and take it to the Lord’s altar. It may seem difficult, but it will certainly free you from a weight that you don’t need to carry.
Another important thing to do in a healing process is to select what we see and hear. How many times have we watched movies and programs that cause sadness or hatred, or listened to music that makes us melancholic, and so many other contents that we have access to nowadays.
This does not mean that you should not seek knowledge, but it is important to be careful, I say this because I myself have had depression and anxiety, when we are ill any simple thought can become a snowball that leads us to an even bigger hole.
Conclusion
God does not judge you for not being well, He is merciful and understands your pain. So, talk to our Father, take your pain to him. It all starts with us admitting that we need healing in a certain area of our life. Also seek counseling in your church, you don’t have to go through this alone, there is a God who loves you very much!
God bless you!
