Selective mercy

Selective mercy

God expects from us a merciful heart, just like His. And in several biblical passages, He teaches us about mercy, love, and compassion…

But have you truly been merciful?

Weaknesses

“Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Philippians 2:4

One of the things I ask God for the most, and where He has worked the most in me, is patience. It’s understanding other people’s timing and difficulties, as this sometimes prevents me from being merciful.

Our tendency is not to show mercy toward what is not our weakness, but to desire mercy in our moments of weakness. What hurts us deserves all the grace and gentleness in the world, but have we shown gentleness and grace toward what doesn’t cause us pain but affects others?

The Bible calls us beyond ourselves. And I write this text in complete vulnerability about one of my own struggles as well.

Unit

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Luke 6:36-38

It is common for human beings to focus so much on their own difficulties and desires that they exclude and disregard the difficulties and desires of others.

When we are quicker, it becomes difficult to wait for those moving more slowly. But everyone has their own timing, and God wants us to walk together, teaching and loving each other.

I’m not saying to base your life and decisions on other people; the guidance for this comes from God. But I’m talking about a sense of unity.

Showing gentleness and love by saying, “It may not hurt me, but I respect and understand that it hurts you. And I’m here as a brother to go through this together.” This is what being a family and a Kingdom is all about. This is being more like Jesus Christ.

Grace and meekness

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

You have God’s mercy in your life, and this should not relax you, but rather motivate you to also be merciful. It is important to understand that the people around you may face difficulties in paths that are easy for you, and it is up to you to be loving like the Father, teaching, and helping.

Just as there will be times when you encounter barriers in simple situations for other people, your heart must be open to receive mercy, help, and guidance from God and the people who love you.

We all need a shoulder to lean on at times, but we must also be available to be that shoulder at other times, ready to console, love, and encourage.

We do not have all the strength and knowledge. There will be times when we teach and times when we will be taught. Moments when we will help someone to get up, and others when we will be rescued. But in all situations, we will always be children loved and cared for by God.

Have you demonstrated to others the grace that God showers on you?

Prayer: Purify and restore

Prayer: Purify and restore

Father, today I stand before You, acknowledging my need for the presence of Your Holy Spirit. There are areas of my life that often resemble dry, weary, and barren land. There are times when my faith weakens, my heart becomes heavy, and my soul thirsts for the water that only You can offer. Therefore, I ask You: pour out Your showers of blessing upon me. May Your Spirit renew what is worn out, restore what is broken, and bring life where there is dryness. Just as You promised to pour water upon the thirsty land, I acknowledge my dependence on You. I do not want to seek satisfaction in the fleeting things of this world, but in the inexhaustible source of Your presence. Fill my heart with Your peace, strengthen my faith, and help me remain close to You at all times. May Your Spirit flow through my life like rivers of living water, bringing hope, direction, and renewal to every area that needs Your touch. Holy Spirit, fall upon me like a flood. Invade the places in my heart that I have not yet fully surrendered to the Lord. Wash away my worries, my fears, my insecurities, and everything […]

Rain and fire upon us

Rain and fire upon us

Throughout the Scriptures, God uses powerful images to reveal the work of the Holy Spirit. Among them, two appear repeatedly: rain and fire. They may seem like completely opposite images when we read them, but rain speaks of life, renewal, and abundance, while fire speaks of purification, holiness, and power. When we cry out, “Holy Spirit, fall like a flood” or “Holy Spirit, send Your fire,” we are echoing deeply biblical symbols that point to God’s work among His people. The Holy Spirit is not merely a force or a passing emotion. He is the living presence of God dwelling within us, transforming dry hearts into fertile ground and igniting cold lives with the fire of His presence. Rain upon dry ground “I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26 Since the Old Testament, God has promised to pour out blessings upon His people like rain that falls at the proper time. The image of water is frequently used to describe spiritual renewal, restoration, and abundant life that come from the Lord. In a world marked by spiritual exhaustion, many hearts […]

Procrastinators

Procrastinators

We live in a tired generation. We constantly hear about procrastination, discouragement, and the difficulty of completing even simple daily tasks. Many times, our lives seem organized on the outside, but inside there is an overwhelmed mind with no strength to begin. Getting out of bed feels difficult. Small tasks become gigantic. Simple things remain unfinished and, without realizing it, we accumulate pending matters that increase our anxiety even more. Procrastination is not always born from laziness. Sometimes, it comes from mental exhaustion, emotional overload, and a mind that can no longer handle so many demands at the same time. And perhaps the answer is not in doing more, but in slowing down, breathing, and learning to walk one step at a time before God again. The body stops “For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.” Psalm 103:14 Our minds were not created to carry everything at once. When we look at a huge list of responsibilities, pressures, and expectations, the brain tends to search for a place of comfort and escape. That is why, many times, we become paralyzed even before small tasks. Not because we do not want to do them, but […]
