Remain in His presence
It is common to ask, “What is God’s will for my life?” In the midst of decisions, expectations, and dreams, we seek clear, quick, and definitive answers. We want to understand our calling, our mission, and the next step. However, many times God does not respond with a complete map, but with an invitation: remain in His presence.
God’s will is not, most of the time, revealed all at once. It is discerned along the journey, through daily obedience that builds intimacy with Him. Before revealing destinations, God shapes hearts. Before showing the “where,” He works on the “who.”
The presence of God is not a reward for those who get it right, but the path for those who desire to walk with Him. When we understand this, we stop running after answers and begin to rest in the One who guides every step.
God’s will is born in His presence
“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Psalm 25:4–5
Moses did not ask for direction first; he asked for presence. In Exodus 33:14, God responds, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” God’s will begins when we understand that we do not walk alone. Presence comes before direction.
Many times we want to make decisions with clear guidance without first building intimacy. But God reveals His ways to those who know Him. Paths are taught to those who remain close, because we become sensitive to His voice.
When we are in His presence, our hearts are aligned. God’s will ceases to be a distant mystery and becomes something perceived in daily life—through small convictions, inner adjustments, and the peace that accompanies our choices.
Listening before acting
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27
Listening to God’s voice is an ongoing relationship, not a rare event. Spiritual sensitivity is built through consistency in His presence, not through the urgency of decisions.
When we rely only on our own understanding, we lose our way. That is why Proverbs 3:5–6 instructs us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and to acknowledge Him in all our ways. To acknowledge God is to include Him in our routine, in simple choices, in the ordinary moments of life.
As we walk in obedience to what has already been revealed, God makes the next step clear. His will becomes evident as we obey, not before we surrender our days. Direction comes in the movement of those who walk with God; it does not dwell in the anxiety of those who only want answers.
Direction, consistency, and the path
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33
To seek the Kingdom is to seek the presence of the King. When we do this, everything else finds its proper place. God’s will is not discovered by chasing after “things,” but by remaining in Him. We need only His presence—nothing more. Everything else is gain.
The presence of God is not the result of an aligned life; rather, we are aligned through His presence. It is the means through which everything happens. In His presence we are shaped, corrected, strengthened, and sent. Psalm 16:11 says, “In Your presence there is fullness of joy”, and that fullness also brings clarity.
When we understand that His presence is the path, we stop treating God’s will as a distant destination. It becomes something lived out daily, step by step, in communion with Him. Remaining is often the greatest way to move forward.
