Prayer: Destroying the "self"

Father, today I place myself before You with a humble heart, recognizing that I often seek to hear only what pleases me. Forgive me when I resist Your Word the moment it confronts my pride, my desires, or my ways. Give me a teachable heart, willing to receive the truth of Christ, even when it reveals what needs to be transformed in me. I do not want to live according to my own opinions, but according to Your will.

Remain close to me and teach me to remain firm in Your Word. Remove all spiritual blindness from my eyes and open my understanding to comprehend the Scriptures. Destroy my self, diminish who I think I am, so that I may have room to truly receive the identity of a child. May the Lord grow in me.

May Your Holy Spirit illuminate my mind and my heart, so that I do not just know the truth, but allow it to shape my attitudes, my relationships, and my choices. May I never reject Your voice and direction.

God, help me to live in communion and unity with the people You have placed in my life. Deliver me from a hardened, critical, or proud heart. Teach me to love as Christ loved, to correct with gentleness, to forgive with sincerity, and to walk in peace with my brothers and sisters. May the truth never be used by me to wound, but always to build up, restore, and draw people closer to You.

Thank You because You are a Father who disciplines out of love and does not give up on forming Your children. Even when correction hurts, I choose to trust that it produces life, maturity, and freedom. Mold my character into the image of Jesus. Uproot from me everything that hinders Your work and cause humility to grow in my heart to accept Your direction every day.

Finally, Lord, I surrender my life completely into Your hands. May I never trade truth for comfort, nor the approval of people for Your presence. Give me courage to obey, wisdom to discern Your voice, and perseverance to remain firm by Your side. May Christ always be at the center of my life, my relationships, and my walk, leading me along the path of truth that sets free and transforms. In the name of Jesus, amen.
