We have already talked about how dependent we are on the Father.
No matter how much we know how to do certain things on our own, the best choice is still to follow His steps. He wants to be in control of our lives because He dreams of the best for us.
Patient father
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will He harbor his anger forever; He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.”
Psalm 103:8-11
God knows everything, so He is by our side, already aware of our limitations and human mistakes.
But He is patient with our childishness and immaturity. He knows our lack of knowledge and our difficulty in controlling ourselves.
The Bible says in several verses how the Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in love.
In all the ancient stories, we see God showing immeasurable patience with His people, guiding them through spiritual deserts and moments of darkness. He sees us as beloved children, who are still learning and growing. Like a kind father, He teaches us gently and corrects us with love, knowing that we are made of dust and prone to fall.
Safe harbor
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
John 14:26
When the Lord tells us to be like children, He is talking about dependence and learning. Our immaturity often leads us to make impulsive decisions and act without regard for the consequences.
In those moments when we fail to control our desires and actions, God does not abandon us. He calls us back, alerts us with His powerful and gentle voice, and offers forgiveness and restoration. His love is a constant beacon, illuminating the way back to Him, even when we stray due to our own choices.
He understands our lack of knowledge and our difficulties, and so He grants us His grace abundantly. For this reason, He tells us so many times in His word how we must trust and surrender everything to Him.
Available grace
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
In His infinite patience, God is always present, and if we fall seven times, He receives us eight times, ready to teach and transform our hearts. He sends us His Spirit to comfort and instruct us, giving us the strength we need to overcome our challenges.
The Lord, in His great glory, pours out His wisdom and discernment upon us, walking beside us, just a prayer away.
When we feel lost or overwhelmed by our own immaturity, we can trust that God is at our side, ready to lift us up and lead us.
Our human love is conditional and limited, but the Father’s love and patience are eternal and unconditional. In Him, we find refuge and guidance in every moment of our lives.
