How to discover my purpose in God?

How to discover my purpose in God?

We, human beings, have the need to find answers for everything, because our Father made us intelligent beings capable of logical thinking. With this come questions about how we should live, what is our purpose in life, why we are here, and many others. Fortunately, we find answers to all of them in the Holy Scriptures and today we will understand a little better how to discover our purpose in God, after all, our Father has a purpose for the life of each of His children.

Why are we here?

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Colossians 1:16

No one is born by chance, we are here with a mission, and because the breath of life has blown upon us. With that I want to start by telling you that if anyone ever said that you were not worth it or that you should not exist, this is a lie. Such a person allowed himself to be used by the enemy to discourage you. The perfect creative God who created you would never create anything without purpose. So first of all you must know that you are necessary.

The second thing I want to tell you is that we are on this earth for a purpose, which is to progress, to perfect ourselves through the test of faith, good works and obedience. We are here, and we have been called to be Christ’s disciples.

And as his disciples our first mission is to spread the good news of salvation, loving our neighbor as ourselves, as it is written in Mark 28:19 – Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Where do we go?

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Another important point in understanding our purpose, is to understand where we are going. It is interesting that we inherited from God, our Father, the yearning for Eternity. Our instinct to always preserve our lives in order to live even more is an evidence of God’s fatherhood in us. (Another thing about you: yes, you have a Father, the best Father!)

And when we receive Christ, we understand that our final destination is not death. As it is written in John 3:16, whoever believes in Jesus receives the longed-for eternal life. When we know that, our way of living is transformed. We understand that our present life is just a way to reach Eternity. We realized that we need to focus our efforts on what will produce results in Eternity.

Therefore, our dreams, plans and projects change. We realize that our purpose is not related to what is material and transitory. We start to work for Eternity, which is where we will go. We also began to be more concerned with those who have not yet understood the meaning of life in Jesus and have not yet received eternal life.

Prayer

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

If you do not know how you can spread the love of Christ and establish the Kingdom of God, there is nothing like praying and asking Him for direction. Maybe you have a gift given by Him that is lying forgotten inside you, just gathering dust. Another point is that maybe you already know what your calling is, but you don’t accept it very well, or you wish you had someone else’s calling, so I want to tell you: trust in God!

No two people are alike, each person has different physical and personality characteristics. We have different talents, abilities, opportunities and resources. Each one of us has a reason for being born where we were born and under the conditions we were born – whether good or bad. Either for our own betterment or to contribute to the great divine plan. Just like small pieces of thread in a great embroidery, when seen separately they don’t mean much, but when admired from a distance, they form a beautiful design.

So we must be who we are and never compare ourselves to other people. The first step to understanding God’s plan in your life is to understand that you are unique. Your abilities, talents and trials are an addition to your journey in Him, that ends in Eternity.

Conclusion

I know that sometimes we can feel confused and afraid of taking wrong steps that will not lead us to the right place. But remember that God is taking care of every detail, we ask for direction and he gives the answers, we just need to be willing to hear them often. So, rest in the Lord that when the time is right everything will make sense.

God bless you!
