Have you ever stopped to think how many times God has prepared a table for you in the desert? By this, I mean that all of us have been through some moment of tribulation, because we live in a world fallen by sin, but as it is written in the Holy Scriptures, even in the worst situations the Lord is with us and more than that, he prepares banquets in the desert, as it is written in Psalm 78.
In this chapter, the miracles of God are counted – that were made for your people who left Egypt for the Promised Land. The Bible points out the desert as a place of trial, where we are taught and improved. Certainly the people of Israel had to go through this arid place, because as we saw along this Psalm, even God caring and bringing supplies, their hearts were full of ingratitude and murmuring.
We must never doubt the miracles of our Lord, we must remember his righteousness and benevolence. The desert is a place of preparation, where He is forging you for something greater, that is, no situation is in vain, through your life God wants to manifest the Glory of Him. Jesus went through the desert, where he was tempted, but he did not let himself be shaken, on the contrary, using God’s own word he stood firm and that is what we must do.
Counting case…
At the beginning of this week, I was leaving work and called an application car, because soon a storm would fall here in São Paulo where I live. It took me a long time to find a driver, I was already worried and impatient, until finally a car came and when I entered I realized that was playing a hymn.
I’m a very talkative person so I was already talking to the gentleman who was driving, we started talking about the weather – that classic topic to pull conversation – and then he asked me if I was leaving work, so I told him I work here in the Bible Offline.
At this moment he opened a big smile and told me that he was a pastor, increased the volume of the hymn he played and we started talking about how the pandemic has impacted people’s lives and how it is a time when more than ever we need to stay strong, with so many unemployed and people losing family.
In spite of this, we remembered about the way God has manifested his Glory, bringing provision and hope, even in the midst of the crisis to his children – even here at home, where my family was also affected – so he told me the phrase that gave this text its name: “God is an expert in preparing a banquet in the desert. We followed the journey talking about the wonders God has done in our lives.
Concluding
Finally, I would like to ask you to reflect throughout today on the banquets that God has already prepared for you in the midst of the tribulations and even during the pandemic. Our nature is to murmur, be ungrateful or even forget what God has done, but we need to change this, pray to the Lord and thank Him for everything He has already done and will still do.
