I’ve mentioned this a few times before, but I want to remind you again: Alone, you may get somewhere, but with God, you will go much further.
Your work and strength may keep you moving, but only by walking with Christ will you reach a place far greater than what you had planned.
Seeking God
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:12-13
To discern God’s will, it is essential to seek intimacy with Him through prayer and the Bible. He is always here, guiding us and revealing His plans, but when we seek Him and dive deeper into His Word, we become more sensitive to His voice, developing a courageous heart full of trust in the Father.
The Bible is a lamp to our feet (Psalm 119:105), illuminating the path we should follow. That’s why dedicating daily time to reading Scripture helps us understand divine principles and align our lives with God’s will.
Moreover, throughout the Bible, we see that Jesus often withdrew to pray, understanding how essential that moment was for His ministry and journey. When we enter into communion with God, we learn to hear His voice and distinguish His will from our emotions and desires.
Openness to His Guidance
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
John 16:13
The Holy Spirit is the one who guides us into all truth. To discern God’s will, we need to be sensitive to His direction and allow Him to transform our way of thinking.
Many times, God speaks through a sense of peace or unrest. When we are aligned with Him, we feel peace in the right decisions (Colossians 3:15). If a choice makes us anxious or uneasy, it may be a sign that it is not the best path.
The Holy Spirit also teaches us through circumstances, opening and closing doors, drawing our attention to different paths and decisions—or even through people.
God reveals Himself in many ways, according to His will. We must trust that He is in control and that, even when we do not understand, He is working for our good.
Wise Counsel and the Fruits of Decisions
“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”
Proverbs 11:14
I also want to remind you of something very important: Learn to listen!
Seek advice from leaders, older and wiser people who have been through similar situations, pastors, and those who study the Word—people who fear the Lord and offer sound counsel.
By listening and seeking, we gain the wisdom to clearly observe the fruits of our decisions. Jesus told us, “By their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:16). If a decision distances us from God, disrupts our fellowship with the church, or brings negative consequences, it may be a warning that it is not His will.
Finally, God’s will is always aligned with His Word. He will never guide us toward something that contradicts biblical principles. When we seek Him with sincerity, trust in the Holy Spirit, and analyze the fruits of our decisions, we can be sure that we are on the right path.
