Today, I would like to bring you a very simple and brief word! Have we welcomed the exhortation of our leaders and brothers in the faith? Have we submitted to the leadership that has been placed upon us, by God?
This is a theme that I love to think and talk about, as it helps us to grow in communion and as the Body of Christ!
Come on?
Teaching in my life
I have always enjoyed learning new and different things, but it was very common for me not to submit to the corrections and exhortations I received. This was something that God dealt with in me through the discipleship I participate in.
It was very hard for me, and it still is, to hear corrections and to hear someone saying that I am wrong, because it hurts my ego. However, as time went on, I learned that the teachings I received was for me to improve and grow in my walk with God.
I still need to learn a lot to control and repress my pride, but the Lord has clearly shown me what he says in Proverbs:
“Because the Lord rebukes the one he loves, as well as the father the son he loves.”
Proverbs 3:12
We must learn to hear
“Do not rebuke the scorner, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise man, and he will love you. Instruct the wise man, and he will become wiser; teach the righteous and he will increase in understanding.”
Proverbs 9: 8-9
The Bible makes it very clear to us that exhortation is necessary. However, what good will the exhortation do if we do not listen to what they tell us? This is the time when we need to let our guards down and receive with love and peace what people are trying to pass on to us.
We cannot think that we are always right, because that way we will never learn and never grow in our spiritual life.
Who do we want to be? The fool who, when corrected, becomes enraged, for not accepting to be wrong, or the wise man who, when corrected, becomes even wiser, because he receives correction with love?
We know that it is difficult to be corrected. It is extremely painful for our ego to recognize that we have made mistakes, that we are flawed and that we are not perfect. In Hebrews we can see that, in fact, it is very difficult to receive discipline. However, it bears peaceful fruit
“No discipline seems to be a reason for joy at the moment, but rather for sadness. Later, however, it produces fruit of justice and peace for those who were exercised by it.”
Hebrews 12:11
Have we heard the corrections we received or have we ignored each one and followed our lives in the way that we think is right? Think about it.
Grace and peace.
