Where does your insomnia begin?

Where does your insomnia begin?

In peace, I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 4:8

Tick-tock, tick-tock, so the clock beats, one more hour passes and no sleep comes, we start to wonder why we are in such a situation, but not always accept the real reason, creating even unfounded reasons in our imagination.

These days I found myself this way, almost time to wake up and sleep “didn’t come”, or rather, I was too restless to sleep, so I thought of a thousand things, I took some tea, tried to change position in bed, but nothing seemed to help. Until at a certain moment I realized that I was thinking for hours about the same subject and the same person, and that was when I realized the origin of such restlessness.

In fact, my insomnia had a name and a reason, even though I was insisting that it was just lack of sleep. I was so stuck on that thought that I started to feel distressed and then I realized that the enemy was trying to attack my mind, because that way I would not have the disposition to do everything I needed to do the next day.

Thoughts that add nothing

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to get rid of certain thoughts, it seems that they only get worse. We try to change the focus, to think of something else, but we still have that unresolved thing in us and with the other. It is at this moment that we often realize that the only one who can help us is the Lord, we already knew this before, but instead of going in search of the solution, we stay there mulling over thoughts and feelings that add nothing.

You see, we need to be humble, leaving our pride aside and many times going to God, without even knowing what to say, but surrendering that which afflicts us so much. The surrender may not be easy, but there are situations that we need a wisdom and understanding that only our Father can give us.

After all, he knows our thoughts and our heart better than we do, so there is nothing like putting everything in his hands and letting him guide us in every decision and thought. Usually when we find ourselves like this we have the will to solve something, but we can hardly do it late at night.

So there is nothing like sleeping, resting, and waiting for the next day to act calmly on a certain matter. After all, work will not be solved at dawn, bills will not be paid at this time, and many things will have to wait until the next day, but if you are tired, it will be much harder to do what is necessary.

Conclusion

The best thing to do when insomnia knocks at the door is to pray, telling the Lord the reasons why you can’t sleep and talking to Him. In the same way, we can read the Bible which has so much to teach us and in the book of Psalms we find several passages that talk about sleep.

God bless you!
