Where is our refuge? Who have we believed and trusted? In moments of anguish and pain, into whose arms have we been running?
These days I have been thinking a lot about refuge. About who I have placed my hopes on. In times of suffering, we need to run to the right place.
I would like to talk a little about it! Come on?
Where is our heart?
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21
The Bible makes it very clear to us that what we pay attention to will greatly influence our decisions. However, several times we pay attention to things that do not matter and this brings us great losses.
Whenever we have our hearts in the wrong place, as soon as we experience some difficulty, we tend not to run to God or even to blame Him, even though we have no reason to do so.
However, this does not happen only when we are in an uncomfortable or painful situation. This also happens, often, when we are happy and “without problems or difficulties” in our lives. We end up forgetting that it is the Lord who does all things and we start to trust ourselves, our attitudes or our decisions.
These are two factors that take us far from the desire for security that we have in the Lord.
The Lord is a refuge!
“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
Psalm 46: 1-5
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.”
The Lord is the only one to whom we can and must run. He is the only one who has the answers to our difficulties and he is the only one who will be waiting for us at all times, whether moments of difficulty or joy.
If we do not have our trust in the Lord, we can easily get lost and make our situation even worse.
I don’t know how you are today, in this moment of quarantine and social crisis and how you have been dealing with this whole situation. I hope you’re well. But what I want to spend today is exactly that: take advantage of this time of isolation to root your trust in the Lord.
Whenever you are afraid of tomorrow and the uncertainty of what is to come, remember that the Lord is at your side and He is fighting with you and He is the only one on whom we can trust our future, our pains and our fears. We must learn to trust the Lord more and delight in Him, for He is a refuge.
Grace and peace.
