Do you consider yourself a meek person? Meekness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that seems so lacking in our society. What we see most often are reactive people, who get stressed over little things and more than that end up being aggressive in their communication with others.
But surely this is not how those who have been transformed in Christ should act, is it? We serve a God who is meek and who values such a way of behaving, and today we will see what the Bible has to tell us about being meek.
Be careful how you respond
An angry man provokes quarrels, and he of a violent temper commits many sins.
Proverbs 29:22
Our Father is pleased with those who have meekness in their hearts, being humble, kind, calm, and sure toward their neighbor. The enemy is quick and often provokes various disagreements just so that we fall into his temptations, but we must pray and watch always, so as not to give in to any sin.
He who gets angry too quickly, will easily fall into great temptations. So, be gentle at all times, if someone hates you and wishes you harm, do it differently. Very different from what many people think, this is not being made a fool of, but just not being reactive to the evil of the other. Surely, if you act like this, God will know how to reward you and this will save you a lot of stress.
To be meek is to be wise
The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but must be kind to all, able to teach, patient. He should meekly correct those who oppose him, in the hope that God will grant them repentance, leading them to the knowledge of the truth, so that they may return to sobriety and escape from the snare of the Devil, who has imprisoned them to do his will.
2 Timothy 2:24-26
The meek person is the one who acts wisely in all things, who is also obedient to God, knows how to control himself in any difficult situation, does not let himself be overcome by arrogance, hatred or even momentary anger. Besides, he is the one who doesn’t hurt the other in the face of his own pain, because as I have heard a very dear pastor say a few times, hurt people… hurt.
Patience, the key to gentleness
A patient man shows great understanding, but a hasty man shows folly.
Proverbs 14:29
Patience is a key to being meek, also because the fruits of the Spirit are all related to each other, so one leads to the other. Being patient is not always easy, but it is something we can work on ourselves, remember that the other person does not have the same rhythm as you do, and that is okay.
In general, getting angry just gets in the way, because it won’t speed anything up, it will only cause you unnecessary stress. So remember that patience will get you much further, for it is with patience and gentleness that we can solve everything here that we need to.
God bless you!
