The Holy Spirit transforms many things in us and many of them have to do with our positioning. These days I heard a preaching from a very special pastor and I would like to share with you some of the ideas he presented.
To position
“Be on your guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. Do everything in love.”
1 Corinthians 16:13,14
Sometimes we think that having the Holy Spirit, in certain situations such as arguments or difficulties, is keeping quiet and just holding back, sitting back and waiting for Him to do something.
But the Spirit of God gives us discernment for a good position in any situation.
To be filled with this Spirit is to know how to position yourself, but not with your own strength, but by recognizing your dependence on Him. God expects us to position wisely. Even if we are without strength, He calls us to act according to His will. If the call comes from Him, He will be the source of strength to walk toward it.
He empowers you
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
The Father does not want you to overwhelm yourself. In your moment of weakness and fear He doesn’t ask you to get up so that you suffer. But He expects obedience from us. Jesus has already told us that His yoke is easy and that His burden is light when we follow Him.
We need to understand the size of God’s strength. When we are weak, He calls us and we need to understand that, if He calls us, the strength to get up and walk we will find in Him.
Many times in the Bible we see the Lord asking people to take certain actions that do not match their human capacity. Like when He asks the blind to open their eyes and see, or when He orders the lame to get up and walk, or even when he asks a dead man to come out of the tomb.
When He calls us is not based on our ability, but on His strength. He empowers whom He chooses.
Open your mouth
“Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!”
Acts 5:29
What impresses me most about the followers of Jesus that are presented in the bible are not the facilities they had, because they were the ones who suffered the most for choosing to follow God.
Their life calls to my attention and fills my heart with admiration for how devout they were. Even in pain and difficulty, even when nothing made sense in God’s call, they kept positioning and moving, because it was only the Father’s voice that mattered to them. It was on this voice that they were totally dependent.
The pain they faced and everything they left behind didn’t matter before the strength of God.
You may feel like the last option, as David was for people around him. But even though this small and fragile boy in human eyes was the last choice on earth, in heaven he was the first option.
If God calls you, get up! If He asks you for silence, shut up! But if He asks you to speak, even if you don’t feel qualified to do so, open your mouth and what comes out of it will have the word of God as its source, through your obedience and positioning before the call.
