The life of Jesus is a perfect example for us in every way—especially in humility and during moments of suffering and injustice.
Christ left us a model to follow, serving as an inspiration for how we should walk. Every step He took teaches us how to take our own.
Servant of servants
“Rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
Philippians 2:7-8
The life of Jesus teaches us that true greatness lies in serving others. Though He was the Son of God, He took on the role of a servant.
In John 13, for example, the Bible recounts how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, showing that no one is above performing acts of humble service. He did not hesitate to serve those who followed Him. Even as the Sovereign Lord, Jesus was present for them—close and humble.
This attitude demonstrates that Christian leadership is not about dominance but about love and care. He made it clear that whoever desires to be great must first be a servant. By imitating Jesus, we learn to serve others with a giving and selfless heart, out of love, expecting nothing in return.
Christ exemplifies that serving is more than just a gesture—it is a reflection of the heart. He calls us to place the needs of others above our own, displaying God’s love through practical actions.
Birth of Jesus
“And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”
Luke 2:7
Jesus could have come into the world as a powerful king, but He was born in a manger, into a humble family. This teaches us that humility is about recognizing God’s will above all else—it has nothing to do with status or wealth.
God is not impressed by appearances but by hearts that are willing. In Matthew 5:3, He declares, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus’ humble birth reveals that God’s Kingdom is accessible to everyone, regardless of their status or possessions.
The manger reminds us that God works through simplicity. In a world that values power and extravagance, we are called to reflect the humility of Christ, honoring God in every detail of our lives.
The sacrifice on the cross
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”
1 Peter 2:21-23
The greatest demonstration of Jesus’ humility was His death on the cross, which occurred for our sins so that we might be saved. He accepted humiliation and suffering, even though He was innocent and already had a place at the Father’s side, to reconcile us with God.
This teaches us to renounce pride and sacrifice ourselves for others and for God. The Son trusted the righteous Judge, and we must listen to His story to imitate His example, follow His steps, and grow to resemble The Greatest.
The cross challenges us to abandon self-promotion and live in a way that exalts God. As we remember His sacrifice, we are inspired to walk a path of love, striving to glorify the Father in everything we do.
