“All spiritual blessings,” as written in Ephesians 1:3, is a way of describing the abundant blessings received from the Lord. They are divine favors. This term is linked to the favor and grace of God manifested in our lives. It is not something received on merit or at random.
The essence of this term
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”
Ephesians 1:3
Many times our mind refers the word “blessing” to something material. Like money, house, car… But God blesses us from the material to the immaterial. He blesses us spiritually and emotionally. He gives us health, family, relationships, spiritual growth, peace and resources.
Receiving all spiritual blessings does not exempt us from challenges. Trials exist and difficulties can arise in some areas, even as they coexist with blessings in other aspects of our lives.
The point here is that He has already blessed us and we can rely on God’s love and faithfulness in all circumstances and at all times. This awareness of God’s presence and care in our lives is sharpened as we develop intimacy with Him, not whether we are living happy or sad moments.
Telling the good news
“As for me, I will always have hope. I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long— though I know not how to relate them all. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord. I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Psalms 71:14-17
We need to acknowledge His daily blessings, big and small, for better or for worse.
When we are deeply and truly connected with God, we clearly perceive His move, the miracles He works, His teachings and we are sensitively guided by His voice. We also learn to obey and seek the will of the Father. And a walk of obedience and search for the Father’s will generates even more blessings.
Do you understand how one thing leads to another?
Those who experience a deep walk with God are encouraged to also share the blessings and testimonies. We need to talk about God’s love and care for us, we want to make public what He has done.
What is Eternal transforms us
The entire Bible, from Old to New Testaments, talks about blessings. God brings in His word teachings and examples about how the Father pours out His grace on our lives.
For example, in Deuteronomy 28, in the Old Testament, the Lord lists in detail the blessings that would be bestowed upon Israel, based on the people’s obedience to the Lord. The promises about those people and their offspring referred to both material and spiritual blessings. But mainly they referred to what is Eternal and can generate true transformation.
In the New Testament, in Matthew 5, Jesus teaches about blessings in an even deeper way, showing His disciples and followers that, however much our heart desires to receive from the Father, it is necessary that the objective is to seek first the Kingdom and the justice of heaven. If we seek Him and make Him our foundation, the more He will do.
Jesus, throughout His walk, showed us that blessings are not only linked to what is palpable, that is, it is not just about what you see with your eyes. It has to do with what is perceived from the heart and its connection with the Most High.
God is a loving Father and He doesn’t just want to give us what is material, which over time spoils and may no longer serve us. He also gives us those gifts that we want, but He wants to pour out on us an unshakable faith, an obedience that guides in the best way. He offers us peace, love, care. He wants to teach us to desire what really matters, that is, to desire what is eternal.
Seek first the Kingdom, and everything else He will do.
