Many times we are on a path, and then, we divert our gaze.
This changes our steps, actions, and goals, either leading us to the right path or diverting us to the wrong one.
Towards Christ
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:30-31
Keeping watch over the direction of our gaze is something that defines the direction of our steps.
In Matthew 14, we see the story of Peter, where Jesus calls him to walk on water, and he goes to meet the Son. While Peter’s eyes were on Jesus, he stayed above the water. The invitation was made by God, the path was created by Him, but at a certain moment, Peter stops and looks at the waves. Then, he begins to sink.
When Peter’s eyes were focused on Jesus, miracles happened; but when he focused on the storm and the problems, he strayed from the path of life.
Steer the boat
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.“
Psalm 121:1-2
The direction of your gaze will define the direction of your steps, and the direction of your steps will define your prophetic destiny.
Don’t waste your time looking at the problem. You can’t control the wind, and many times God won’t change the weather either, but you can adjust the sails and decide where to steer the boat.
Spend time looking at the promise. Wherever you are, may your eyes be focused on Jesus.
The problems may be great, but the promise will always be greater. The promise will always be more glorious. God is preparing a path over the waters; just look to Him and follow His voice.
Look at Him!
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
1 John 4:4
If problems come against me, I need to remember that, above all, the promise is over me. If the problems try to stop me, I need to remember that the Lord is my refuge. The problems may be frightening, but God is glorious.
The One who created the heavens and the earth cares for me and knows my heart.
If we look to Him, the depth of the waters will not be a problem. He will make a way through the waters, through the fire, and despite all obstacles.
With Him, the stones in the path become lessons that help us grow and mature spiritually. We just need to keep our eyes on Him!
