We wake up, what do we do? We grab our cell phone and there goes our start of the day, but it’s time to give it a rest, so join me in a 3 day study to get out of procrastination. I’m sure you’ve felt like you needed more time in the day, that 24 hours seemed too little, but you know our God gave us the exact time we need, what happens is that many times we don’t manage it wisely.
Procrastination and inconstancy
These two words are well related, procrastination and inconstancy, you want to accomplish your tasks and one day you do, but the next day… then you don’t feel the same spirit as the day before and you do much less than you need to. This is the inconstancy generated by procrastination. You feel paralyzed with a lot of things to do. You feel that life is moving forward relentlessly while you are pushing it along.
Your plans seem too big to carry out, so you’d rather put them off until later, when you’re more “relaxed”, but you know what? There is no perfect time to start, in this life we will have troubles and if we don’t react, we won’t get out of the place. These days I have been very restless with the end of my college term and all that I have to deliver? at the same time, a thousand things are happening at home and I feel overwhelmed.
So much so that this Sunday, while talking to my mother about what I will do next year, I burst into tears: will it be a specialization? A master’s degree? Courses in my area? Will I start a new college? What would happen if I changed careers? With so many things in mind, as to the future I realized I was neglecting the now, what really matters: the delivery of the final thesis.
With this I also realized that procrastination is due to the expectations we place on the future, because it paralyzes us in the now. Let me explain better, I think it got confusing lol lol? we find ourselves so worried about the future that it generates a fear of failing in the now, so we put aside tasks that seem too big, because what would happen if we fail?
Here again we come back to inconstancy, one day you feel willing to change the world, you do everything and then some, but the next day you no longer feel that same willingness. You start a task and don’t finish it. Sometimes you can’t even start. You feel immobile, full of doubts in front of that pile of things to do.
But how to overcome this challenge? Well, in the next few days we will seek to know the consequences of procrastination and what the Bible says about the subject. Today I want to leave you with some verses and tips.
Thinking about the whole paralyzes!
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
2 Thessalonians 3:11,12
Sometimes when we think of all we have to do we end up paralyzed and discouraged, so take the first step, if you never start you will continue without doing what you need to do and there are things that only you can do for yourself. Like, for example, my senior thesis, it’s nothing that anyone can do for me, it’s my responsibility.
Taking a hook from the word “responsibility”, here is another important thing for us to understand, know what your responsibilities are, you don’t have to carry the world on your back and neither should you. Another thing that I realized while talking Sunday here at home was that I was worrying and bringing responsibilities to myself that were not mine, which took my focus away from what was really my business and a priority at the moment.
So we can say that the first step to overcome procrastination is to take one step at a time, do not wait for the perfect moment, because it will not exist, one day at a time, one task at a time, there is no miracle, but there is a daily change of position that we must take. Keep in mind during the next few days this wise passage from the word of God:
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up,
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
God bless you!
