We often go through delicate situations in the most diverse areas of our life and then we ask ourselves: “Why me?”, And today I would like to reflect with you on this topic. We are experiencing many adversities because we are in a world fallen by sin and even certain diseases exist due to the misrepresentation of the human being, but I would also like to remind you that we have gone through some difficulties for the glory of God to manifest.
The blind
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
John 9: 3 (NIV)
In John 9, the story is told of when Jesus gives physical and spiritual light to a blind man, and in this passage his disciples ask if his parents or that man – who was blind from birth – would have sinned for him to be born with that disability, but Christ soon corrects them, stating that neither the parents nor the son had sinned, but that young man had that condition for the works of God to be manifested in him.
Soon after, Jesus performs the miracle, mixing saliva and earth, and asks the blind man to wash himself in the tank of Siloam – which means “sent” – then the man begins to see. Still in this passage, we speak of the spiritual blindness of the Pharisees who refused to believe that Christ was God Himself, however, the young man who did not see before believed.
In this story, it is clear that adversity does not happen just as a consequence of sin, it can also be a tool for the manifestation of the glory of God and in both situations the Lord works and transforms what could previously be a cause for shame or sadness, in a beautiful testimony.
In conclusion …
For the Lord will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance.
Psalm 94:14 (NIV)
As much as we don’t know the “why”, God knows the “why” of a situation and in addition, he is on our side holding our hands. Even in the most difficult moments, the Lord does not abandon us.
