Too busy for Christ

Too busy for Christ

When we choose to listen to the Lord, we take the best path. Spending our time at the feet of Christ is the best choice, and nothing else matters when we have this closeness to Him.

In Luke 10, we see God clearly express this truth to Martha and Mary.

Hear Him now!

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.”

Luke 10:38-39

Mary left behind everything that had to be done in the house, as she knew what a great opportunity it was to have Jesus there with them.

They could hear the Master, face to face, sitting with them.

We don’t encounter Jesus in the flesh, like they did. But we have Him with us every day and at all times. He lives in our hearts, and we can talk to Him at any time of the day.

The Lord knocks on the door to sit with us too and invites us to be at His feet, listening to everything He has to teach.

All of the teachings that Mary was receiving from Jesus, all of His words spoken to her, none of that would be taken away from Mary because she chose to listen to the Lord.

Don’t be distracted

“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”.

Luke 10:40

Martha, unlike Mary, did not leave everything to listen to the Lord.

I don’t want to say anything bad about Martha here, but I want to make you think about how many times you were distracted by people around you. When you were at the feet of Jesus, worshiping and listening to His voice, but another person or situation stole your attention with things that soon pass.

On the other hand, how many times have you acted like Martha? So distracted by things around you that you didn’t notice the presence of the Son of God? Or even, sometimes, also distracting those next to you?

The house would later get dirty again, the mess could happen again, but that visit was important, and it could be the last time it happened face to face in their home. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the presence of Jesus.

He is here!

“Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:41-42

When Martha questions Jesus and asks for Mary’s help in organizing the house, Jesus points to the best choice: being in His presence.

Nothing else matters when He is present.

Every day, we are covered with so many worries that we miss the presence of God. He is here, and we can feel Him when we seek Him. But we are too busy with our jobs, studies, home, friends…

We need to leave everything to Him, understanding that when He is there, He cleans, organizes, renews, and transforms. We don’t need to worry about fluffing the pillow if He is in the middle of the room with open arms to welcome us.

Don’t miss the opportunity to truly live in Christ, in relationship and depth.
