We’re approaching Father’s Day and, just like Mother’s Day, I want to talk a little about fatherhood. Not just about the fatherhood we have contact with in our earthly family. But also the one that was delivered to us by God, in an undeserved way.
Is God a Bad Father?
I’ve heard phrases like “God is an executioner Father”, followed by an argument that said God killed His own son and how horrible that was.
Let’s analyze the text of Ephesians 2, verses 4 and 5: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved“.
Perhaps in our merciless human eyes, we would save the perfect so that those who are imperfect would fight for themselves in their mistakes. But God chose to deliver Christ, the pure firstborn, so that he could save those who did not deserve even a tear from this perfect God. That’s because He is made of mercy, compassion and love.
God in his grandeur and incorporeal form became flesh to save mankind. He is the Father and the Son. As it is written in chapter 1 of the book of John, in verse 1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” Verse 14 further states that “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth“.
Shaped by love
“Because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in
Proverbs 3:12
And that is true love, the love of a father who gives everything for his children. This parent guides, loves, and protects, but also exhorts and rebukes when necessary. Going through processes in which we are transformed and shaped hurts, but they are part of God’s love over our lives.
My father always gave me advice and when necessary scolded me. At times I saw him as an executioner, but really he just wanted to make me be the best version of myself, and in all the things I do today, there’s a piece of everything my mom and dad told me. during the life.
We are children of the same loving Father
“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter. We are all the work of your hand“
Isaiah 64:8
God wants that from you too. He, as your Father, calls you to be your best version, so that your heart becomes blameless. This doesn’t mean that he will only love you when you get it right, but that his arms will always be open to receive you as you are, being the perfect place to be molded and renewed.
I don’t know what your home is like, but know that, whatever the image of fatherhood you had access to in your life, you have a Father up there who loves you very much! He is able to completely discipline us so that we share in His holiness and His glory through Jesus.

Lean on His footsteps
When I was a kid my dad would put my feet under his so I could walk without getting so tired. Allow God to do this for you. Not that He keeps you from a long walk, but that He can support your feet and guide your every step like a protective father.
He’s not just from above caring about you, He also lives in your heart, being a part of who you are.
