It’s interesting to think about how our life is made of cycles. People come, people go, situations come and situations go. Hardly anything that comes stays forever. There are exceptions, but often that’s not how it works.
If you say you’ve never gone through a cycle closure in your entire life, I’m sure I’ll find it very strange.
Chapters
I love to read and even more to write. I like to think of our lives as a book.
At first, for us it is blank, but for God (the Author) it is filled with stories, situations, twists and much more, from our first little steps to the biggest decisions. God sees from the moment we arrive in this world, still in our mothers’ wombs.
Closing cycles can often be a very tense chapter in life. Situations or other characters can leave the protagonist (me or you) confused and make him question: “why am I living this?”
I was once talking to a friend, venting about a bunch of things that were going on. She looked deep into my eyes and said: “you are in despair because everything got out of your control, but that is normal, it is part of your process of maturation and growth as a christian and as a person”.
It stayed in my head for days, weeks, months and I keep remembering what she said whenever a cycle closes.
Cycles and God
“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:”
– Ecclesiastes 3:1
This I believe is the best known verse in the book of Ecclesiastes, but it expresses very well what we are talking about here. God puts a time for everything. Our earthly life is finite. And it’s very difficult to accept that something’s time is up.
To help me in these moments, I like to remember that God’s love is not finite, but infinite. As much as cycles close, His love does not end. His love crosses barriers. The sea cannot stop it, walls and padlocks cannot paralyze it. The Father’s love involves us in such a way that it is impossible for us to feel the same.
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
– Romans 8:38-39
Don’t forget that the One who has this supernatural love is the one who created you and died in your place. He is also the one who allows you to go through certain situations. So trust that He has the best!
