Still in our series on identity, I want to talk about another part of shaping who we are. This time I want to emphasize that, in addition to the biological family, we are invited to be part of God’s family!
From origin to stoning
The dictionary brings as one of the meanings of “Identity” a close similarity, although also a person in the individual. That is to say, having an identity in God makes us like Him too. We are admirable works created by His hands.
“For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well“
Psalm 139:13-14
Through Jesus, the Father also wants to give us the identity of children and gives us our calling and purpose. As it says in Galatians 3:26-27, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ“
Just as Christ the Son had the call and purpose to become flesh and come into the world to save us, so God has given you a purpose and an essence. We spoke of the origin of human identity in the last text, and many times that origin can hurt us in some way and require changes in us to achieve what Christ has prepared for us as children of God. We are much more in Him!
Knowing the Creator shapes creation
We cannot know our identity without first knowing the Father. It is on Him that our heavenly family is founded, it is because of Him that it exists. Recognizing ourselves in God and receiving this word from Him allows us to understand why we are what we are, why we know how to do something, what our objective is in the world.
Through this we are able to be molded and shaped by the Father in our gifts and talents to use them in the best way, cooperating with the Kingdom and, as a consequence of these aligned actions, we gain a life close to Him, full of blessings. We are like clay that is molded in the potter’s hand.
“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand“
Isaiah 64:8
The very distribution of gifts and talents and the way God personally works in each of us is for the building up of our spiritual family. We are complete in each other, with that precious thing that God has made and placed in each of us.

If you have doubts about your identity in Christ, about how you can serve your spiritual family, I invite you to seek that in Him.
The bible says that we are His creation, created in His image and likeness. So who better than Him to give you the reality of who you are? Meditate on the word, praying for Christ to reveal things about you, showing you your calling and making you understand that, regardless of the area of your calling, you are already a child and part of that love.
