Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Goodness

Learning about the fruit of the Holy Spirit: Goodness

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

We are in the sixth text of the series “Learning about the Fruit of the Spirit”, in which we will delve into what is written in the Bible about the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, mentioned in the book of Galatians, and today we will learn more about goodness. I would like to begin by leaving here the passage from Psalm 125: 4: “Lord, do good to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart
”.

Goodness

Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

1 Thessalonians 5:15 (NIV)

We are already in the sixth text of our series and I would like to bring a reflection here, I believe that you have already realized how each of the characteristics of the fruit of the Holy Spirit are related to each other. Goodness is directly related to long-suffering, which is related to peace and so on, that is why it is so important that we seek and ask the Lord for the complete fruit, being perfected in love.

That said, let’s go to the theme of the day, the word of God instructs us to be kind to one another and to everyone, that is, it is not to be kind only to those we want, but to anyone and even other living beings . Evil does not match serving the Lord, because as we already know, our Father is not evil, but just and as it is written in Deuteronomy 7: 9, He keeps his covenant and goodness to all who love Him and obey His commandments .

There is so much evil in the world, because the Evil One resides in it as it is written in 1 John 5:19, and as a consequence because people seek their own interests, they are selfish, seeking everything in their own way and in their own time. Being kind implies being humble in heart, which requires us to let go of the ego, for as long as we think only of ourselves we will not be able to exercise kindness towards others.

There are many people who will not be kind to us, but we need to remember that, as written in Ephesians 6:12, our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, princes of darkness and evil spiritual hosts. In this struggle, we must be prepared, clothed in the armor of God and strengthened in His word.

In conclusion…

Today I invite you to rethink your attitudes, examine your behavior: is there room in your heart for selfishness? Are you good with others? Have you been fighting people or the evil that used their lives to reach you? Take a moment in your day to analyze your behavior and feel that there is something that needs to change, pray to God, ask for His help and direction.
God bless you!
