The sacred scriptures show us the importance of forgiveness, as it brings peace to our hearts and communion between brothers. Not to forgive is to be disobedient to the word of God (Matthew 18: 21,22), and this can have serious consequences even for our health. So, today I invite you to say: I forgive my brother!
Remembering that you do not need to repeat the prayer exactly as I am going to leave it here, as each of us has a specific way of communicating with the Lord. But if you want to accompany me, it will be a pleasure, feel free to speak your way.
Prayer
Dear God, I thank you for healing your only son and for the price Jesus paid for my sins on the Cross, so that I may have eternal life. Today I want to ask forgiveness for my sins, words, thoughts and attitudes that displease You. And thanks for forgiving me, even though I’m a weakling.
I also recognize that, just as the Lord forgives me, I must release forgiveness to those who somehow hurt me. So, I declare: I forgive my brother. Cleanse my heart of all bitterness, so that there is only room for love and compassion. I place the life of those who hurt me on your altar, touch the life of each of these people and that each day they are closer to You.
I know I’m a weakling, so I’m also sorry if I sinned against someone. I pray that my fellowship with my brothers will be strengthened and that there will be reconciliations in my home and in my church. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray and ask that my words come as a gentle perfume to the Lord!
Prayer of a mere servant of God
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
