I AM

I AM

God reveals who He is to us through various passages of the Bible. Until the moment when He sums it all up in the famous phrase “I Am who I Am”.

Being

“God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.”

Exodus 3:14

In the book of John God is presented to us as the Light of the World (8:12), the bBead of Life (6:35), the Good Shepherd (10:14), the Door (10:9 )…

Throughout the biblical text, from the first book, we see God presenting himself to the people in different ways. In each moment He revealed himself in a different way. But he never ceased to exist in the other forms he had already revealed or would reveal himself in the future.

Sometimes God needs to remind us of something specific in His character. In moments of pain, He shows himself as Comforter. In the hour of uncertainty, He is the Promise. In times of confusion, He is the Way (14:6). But in all these situations, even if an attribute of the Father is in greater evidence, He simply remains Being.

God’s character

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Ephesians 6:11,12

I don’t know what detail of God you need to see at this moment in your life. I don’t know in which specific area you need God’s action. But know that you have everything you need in Him.

Understand that He IS. He always was and always will be fully God. And that power is so great!

For many years I thought, “If God is so powerful, why doesn’t He just kill the Devil?” The answer is simple. Because God does not fight him with His powers, otherwise it would be slaughter. He fights Satan in accordance with spiritual laws and His character, that is, according to who He is. He is a Sovereign God. He is a God of justice, goodness, and holiness.

In one God

“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage. Rather, He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, Being made in human likeness. And Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himsel by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.”

Philippians 2:6-9

The Father is not a dictator. Jesus conquered evil in his moment of greatest physical weakness. But it was at that time that His Spirit demonstrated authority over death, for He did not deserve it. The character of a God of promises, care, healing, restoration and resurrection, gave new life when there were no more human strength for it.

He allows us to choose a path. Evil is here, available if we want it. But the Lord promises us life and protection under His wings.

You might think it’s easy to be God when you have His powers. But Jesus was God only with the character of God in Him. Exercising His faith and devotion. Therefore, the Bible says that the Son was not only by nature like God, but on account of His obedience and sacrifice he was exalted and the Father gave him a name above every name.

When evil has power in our lives, it is not because God has become weak, but because He has allowed us to choose and, if our attitudes go against His way and His character, we are the ones who decide to distance ourselves from Him.

Evil is the absence of good. Choose to be with the One who was, is and is to come. You will find everything you need.
