Proverbs 25:25
We are all thirsty for good news, especially when we await the result of a medical exam, a test, or a decision to hire a new job, but all of this is expected good news! In Proverbs 25, Solomon tells us about the effect of unexpected news, which arrives without warning and surprises us positively.
The unexpected news is usually negative, but what is written is that the positive news shivers the soul, like cold water for those who are thirsty. And it is interesting to note that the effect (quenching thirst with ice water) is fully expected. Whoever takes a sip in the water expects to feel this relief. Which leads us to think that, deep down, we all hope to receive good news, even without knowing why or when.
We always hope that next year will be better, that things will work out in the future, that everything will work out in the end. We simply don’t know why, but the Bible says that our souls are thirsty for God (Psalm 63: 1) and that, like the doe that craves water, our soul also sighs for Him (Psalm 42: 1-2). This goes for everyone, including those you know, but don’t know God!
Spreading good news in times of trouble
At the moment, the world faces a great period of difficulties due to the coronavirus and at all times we have been exposed to bad news, which contaminates our minds with sadness. This contamination can be devastating for us, even shaking our spiritual lives. We cannot allow this to happen to us or to the people around us.
Therefore, I would like to suggest that you give good news to one of those friends that you haven’t seen in a long time. Saying “I love you” to your child or spouse is expected and necessary. But saying “I love you” to a distant friend … is surprising.
God can use you as a messenger for something unexpected, but with a totally expected result: Gratitude for the message. So think about it … and give the idea. Let us all proclaim the Good News to those who do not expect it!
