We can often feel small and think that what we have to offer to God is little and insufficient. But remember that Lazarus received new life when he died, when he could no longer offer anything to God, it was at that moment when the Father resurrected him and acted on him.
That’s what I want to talk to you about today, about how God will use the least likely, where you least expect it. Where there is no more path, in the valley of dry bones, God forms flesh, sinew and new life! Pouring wisdom in place of misinformation and giving a clean look in place of blurred vision.
He chooses the despised
“Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence.”
1 Corinthians 1:27-29
When we read the text of 1 Corinthians 1:27-29, we see that God chooses those we least expect.
Often, people who never thought they would come closer to God experience a deep encounter with Jesus. I met people to whom I would never have imagined their conversions, but who today are pastors, preaching the Gospel, teaching and guiding new people in the faith. In short? Everyone has hope that God can turn a heart of stone into a heart of flesh, as it is written in Ezekiel 36:26.
The wisdom from above confronts our gaze
Verse 29 of the passage we read says: “so that no one may boast in his presence”.
In the context of the Corinthian church, most of its members were socially and culturally ordinary people. With a few exceptions, few were “powerful or rich” in the eyes of the world.
God chooses precisely those who are despised in the human eye to confront our pride and what we consider praiseworthy. This is a strong revelation for us to understand that the only reason for honor that exists in us is the power of God in our favor, which makes us justified, holy and freed. And all of us, rich or poor, popular or not, depend on that same grace and mercy.
Persevere in the opposite direction
In conclusion, the wisdom of this world is not the wisdom of God. Being a Christian can be reduced to walking against what society preaches. The most pleasant paths to the human eye can be those that lead us to the abyss. We have to follow the painful path of the cross, which makes us renounce our desires and our deepest desires.
Search for an understanding from above and for the wisdom of God, which is often considered foolishness and weakness to the world. Don’t give up on the path He has for you, even if many make you discouraged or even if it doesn’t seem worth it in his eyes.
We are the crazy things of this world that will confound the wise.
